Healthcare Commission

The Healthcare Commission is an independent organisation which exists to promote improvements in the quality of healthcare and public health in England and Wales. By generating reports checking safety, clinical and cost effectiveness, governance, patient focus, accessibility and responsive care, care environment and amenities and public health they ensure high standards of care within registered bodies.

When registering independent providers, the Healthcare Commission ensures that they meet the minimum standard of practice. This includes the quality of treatment, checks of premises and equipment, qualifications and skills of staff, policies and procedures, training and professional development, and complaints procedures.

The aim of the Healthcare Commission is to safeguard patients and promote continuous improvement in healthcare services for patients, carers and the public through annual checks. Against set targets it inspects the quality and value for money of healthcare and public health and performance using standards set out by the Department of Health and best available evidence. Ultimately the Healthcare Commission endeavour to provide people with the most complete picture available of how your local healthcare organisations are performing.
