Popular celebrities become plastic surgery influences
When it comes to celebrity looks informing the wishes of cosmetic surgery patients, it’s only a small group of these well-known faces inspiring requests.
“The most popular stars on TV and in movies are the ones my patients seem to want to look like,” said Dr. Pradeep Sinha of the Atlanta Institute for Facial Aesthetic Surgery.
“They are all drawn to the same few people,” he added, saying that even glamour models don’t make the grade for patient wishes.
Sinha notes Angelina Jolie’s lips and Brad Pitt’s nose as choice for plastic surgery patients. Jolie and Pitt’s names came up more often than any other celebrity on the list.
Plastic surgeon Dr. Garth Fisher says that Scarlett Johansson’s face and bust were the top picks in his cosmetic surgery office.
Dr. Sinha has noted that he doesn’t receive requests for celebrities like Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie or Britney Spears.
“We tend to want to look like people who are seen in a positive light, not a negative one,” he said.
A similar study conducted earlier this year by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery found that when it comes to breast implants, the majority of women wanted to emulate Pamela Anderson or Britney Spears’ chest.
Men overwhelmingly favoured Brad Pitt’s features, but they wanted to model their chests off of Arnold Schwarzenegger.
“People need to research a surgeon’s training, experience and affiliations so they can make informed decisions and know what to reasonably expect from plastic surgery as well as non-invasive procedures,” said Dr. Bryan Mandelson, who noted that the survey underscores efforts to continue public education on plastic surgery.
