Cosmetic surgery 2009 predictions revealed

The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) has released its cosmetic surgery predictions for 2009.

ASAPS says that aesthetic medicine like cosmetic surgery will continue to rise in popularity and grow stronger than ever – despite the current global economic downturn.

They expect the market for dermal fillers to grow as new products are released and developed.

In addition, the society thinks plastic surgery procedures that focus on fat removal and dramatic weight loss – like liposuction, lower body lifts and abdominoplasty – will rise in 2009 due to an increasing concern about obesity.

They also predict new developments in the world of non-surgical fat removal to be tested in clinical trials.

Wrinkle-relaxer Reloxin is expected to be released onto the market to compete with Botox injections during 2009. The release of Reloxin fits with trends that will see the popularity of non-surgical cosmetic procedures continue to rise.

And male patients will become ever-more present in cosmetic surgery clinics, with men representing a growing segment of the plastic surgery market in 2009.

However, ASAPS is also warning of some unfortunate trends that could arise.

The society expects to have to urge patients not to seek bargain value cosmetic surgery procedures. This includes discounted products, undergoing plastic surgery procedures abroad and seeking poorly or untrained doctors.

However, ASAPS predicts cosmetic surgery vacations will decrease in popularity as more warnings and safety risks are revealed surrounding the process.

The society’s research involved conducting interviews with cosmetic surgeons around the United States based on what treatments they expect their patients will want.
