British women please partners with cosmetic surgery

New research has found that British women are choosing to have cosmetic surgery in order to please their partners.

Researchers at Aberdeen University interviewed 40 British women and 20 American women between the ages of 23 and 52 as part of the study.

They found that while American women tend to choose cosmetic surgery as a confidence-booster, British women admit to choosing cosmetic procedures partly to please their partners.

Researcher Debra Gimlin noted that British women are more likely keep their cosmetic surgery choices private from their family and friends.

“Even among British women whose ability to pay for cosmetic surgery might have lessened its implications of selfishness, several admitted to feeling remorseful about having spent a large amount of money on themselves,” she said.

As recent research has revealed that more men are becoming comfortable with women enhancing their looks through cosmetic surgery, the new study from Aberdeen University shows how women in the UK wish to include their partner’s desires in their decision to have cosmetic surgery.

The report follows figures released in September by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, which show that the number of breast enlargement operations carried out in the UK has almost tripled in the last five years.

Also on the rise are cheaper, non-surgical cosmetic procedures like Botox wrinkle-relaxers and facial treatments like dermal fillers.

In addition, a study released this autumn found that one in five British men would like their wives to undergo plastic surgery. The husbands surveyed listed liposuction and breast enlargement surgeries as the top five cosmetic procedures they would like their wives to have.
