Non surgical treatments on the rise in the US

A new report has found that the cosmetic surgery market in the United States is set to hit $15.1 billion by 2012, according to Global Industry Analysts Inc.

Non-surgical procedures and injectibles like Botox and dermal fillers are expected to become the most vibrant and promising area in cosmetic surgery growth, as they have a short post-procedure recovery period and are a less expensive option for many patients. (more…)

Botox features on the Valentine’s day gift list

While many couples settle for dinner and a movie on Valentine’s Day, it’s thought that more are choosing to give gifts of Botox on 14 February.

Dr Karen O’Neil, a cosmetic surgeon in Ontario, Canada, told 680 News that she’s noticed an increase in people looking for non-surgical treatments to boost confidence and romance on Valentine’s Day. She added that she’s not surprised couples are turning to these treatment in order to look their best on this day more than others. (more…)

Silicone injections from illegal practitioner risk lives

Two American women are suffering serious health injuries after they chose to have their buttocks injected with a homemade silicon solution to enhance their looks.

The mistake has cosmetic surgery clinics and surgeons around the world reminding patients to seek out qualified practitioners to avoid potentially fatal side effects. Both women have been hospitalised after they became gravely ill. (more…)

Alicia Douvall – the star faces her demons

When I heard about the new TV show on Living, Rehab, which had an episode featuring Alicia Douvall I made sure to set aside some time last night to watch it – after all I wanted to see what she was all about. And even though it was sad and hard to watch in places I’m glad I did. I hope lots of other people did to and saw how dangerous addiction can be. (more…)

US survey shows women trusting cosmetic surgery for workplace edge

New research has shown that many American women are turning to plastic surgery to give them an edge during the economic recession.

The survey compiled by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) spoke to over 700 women between the ages of 18 and 64, and many revealed they felt cosmetic surgery procedures were an important boost to their career success. (more…)

A new study has found that stress increases the signs of aging – why am I not surprised? I mean, we all know how damaging stress can be to your health as well as your wellbeing (that’s why I try and make it to yoga at least once a week). Myleene Klass starts 10 Years younger role with success

The return of Channel 4′s hit series 10 Years Younger pulled in 2.6m viewers, as new host Myleene Klass kicked off her role as presenter. Klass has replaced former host Nicky Hambleton-Jones and the show has been revamped as 10 Years Younger: The Challenge.

The new show focuses on the competitive element; one volunteer attempts to turn backs the hands of time with the help of cosmetic surgery, while another does the same using alternative, non-surgical treatments. (more…)

Rise of pre-celebration Botox demonstrated by Obama inauguration

An American newspaper has reported that there was an increase in demand for Botox in the days leading up to President Obama’s inauguration last month.

USA Today reports that many cosmetic surgeons witnessed a noticeable increase in demand for non-surgical treatments in the days before the ceremony – confirming speculation that many were seeking the treatments to provide a pre-party boost. (more…)
