Men boosting Botox sales as “boytox” on the rise

Cosmetic surgery clinics around the world are seeing an increase in the number of men seeking Botox – or ‘Boytox’ – injections.

A report in the Times notes that there has been a recent sharp rise in the number of men seeking Botox jabs. The report notes that in the United States, about 30,000 American men are having the procedure every six weeks.

In addition, the maker of Botox, Allergan, has reported a 30 per cent increase in demand from men since November 2008.

The report notes that male cosmetic surgery is booming, and giving female procedures a run for their money. It notes that the need to look professional in the current cut-throat job market is one reason many men are turning towards the procedure.

The author of the article, Pip McCormac, notes that after he went in for his first Botox procedure, he was tempted to go for more. He has continued to receive the anti-wrinkle injections in order to preserve his youth.

McCormac adds that people rarely notice that he’s had work done, adding: “… people just think I’m non-judgemental and get eight hours’ sleep a night. Who could want for more?”

Botox is only one cosmetic treatment that many men are accepting. A recent report from the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons has found that the number of male breast reductions have also increased, as stigma surrounding the procedure has decreased.

In addition, a new Channel 4 series called Extreme Male Beauty is reporting stories about men who are seeking to change their appearance through surgery.
