Yummy mummy trend sweeps Australia
More women worldwide are pursuing a ‘mummy makeover’ to combat some of post pregnancy side-effects with cosmetic surgery procedures.
Entertainment Daily reports that one in four women are “usually or always dissatisfied” with their bodies following childbirth, according to a study conducted in Australia by Deakin University. The study suggests that high profile celebrity mothers such as Angelina Jolie and Jessica Alba are encouraging women to look their best and shed their post-baby weight.
The Australian study involved 346 mothers who had given birth within the last one to 12 months. These new mothers revealed that they felt the most pressure to lose their post-baby weight from the media, as well as from friends and their partners. Deakin University researcher Lucia Bongiorno explains: “Both mothers and their peers with new babies, when confronted by media pictures of celebrity mothers such as Bec Hewitt, are saying ‘I’ve got to look like that.’
“But celebrity mothers typically have nannies and personal trainers … the average mother doesn’t. So such an expectation is unfair on themselves.”
Extra weight is not the only body issue that some new mothers face however, many find that the elasticity in their stomachs is reduced while their breasts may become droopy – these are problems that can’t be fixed with exercise or diet alone. Cosmetic surgery procedures are increasingly providing an answer for many women wishing to restore their pre-pregnancy figure and confidence by seeking a natural result more suited to their figure. A recent survey by The Harley Medical Group revealed that 60 per cent of women undergoing breast surgery in the UK are mothers seeking post-baby surgery, while tummy tuck procedures are also allowing many women to restore their pre-pregnancy figure and achieve a natural result.
