Botox is popular among cosmetic surgeons

A new study has revealed that the majority of US plastic surgeons have undergone some form of cosmetic surgery themselves.

The Baltimore Sun reports that cosmetic surgeons in the United States are more than willing to practice what they preach and undergo plastic surgery treatments, with a new survey of 276 members of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons finding that 62 per cent of respondents had undergone at least one procedure to improve their appearance.

Most of these procedures were minimally invasive non surgical treatments such as Botox, skin peels and laser hair removal, though one third of surgeons questioned reported that they had undergone a surgical procedure, with liposuction being the most common. The study also found that women surgeons were more likely to choose procedures than men.

Patient consultation and after-care is an important part of any cosmetic surgery procedure, and it is thought that, by undergoing treatments themselves, these surgeons are in a better position to advise patients about their own cosmetic surgery choices. Seeing that a surgeon is satisfied with their own cosmetic surgery result can also help to assure patients that they are making the right choice.

Here in Britain, surgeons are pushing for stricter cosmetic surgery regulations to ensure that patients are getting the proper service, advice and after-care they need. It is hoped that the enforcement of tighter regulations will expose unethical practitioners and help all patients undergo surgery with recognised and qualified surgeons.
