Cosmetic surgery for men is becoming ever more popular, as men in their 40s and 50s look to hold back the years in order to help boost their careers.

Firstcoastnews.com interviewed American plastic surgeon Dr Bill Johnson, who explained that more men are requesting cosmetic surgery procedures than ever before. The surgeon revealed that non surgical treatments such as Botox are the most popular surgery choice among male patients, but that many others are opting for procedures such as liposuction.

Increasingly competitive corporate environments are encouraging men to look their best into middle age, so they can remain relevant against younger workers, Dr Johnson has seen a double digit increase in the number of men he has treated for cosmetic surgery procedures this year, with an overall increase of two per cent in men’s cosmetic surgery being reported, in spite of the global economic downturn.

Dr Johnson stated: “Most of the men tell me that they’re trying to be more competitive within the marketplace. When you’re an older gentlemen in their late 40′s, early 50′s and you’re trying to compete with young men in their late 20′s, early 30′s.

“I think Botox is easily the most common, but we’re seeing more and more folks with some of the thermage procedures and even liposuction on the men is pretty common.”

More British men are also embracing plastic surgery than ever before, with many citing a celebrity influence as the reason behind their decision.
