Chiselled jawlines becoming increasing popular with cosmetic surgery patients

Friday, July 22nd, 2011
An increasing number of people are opting to undergo surgery to change the shape of their jawline and make themselves more attractive.
According to a report by the Sydney Morning Herald, men and women are choosing to have work performed to make their chins and jawlines more rounded. While some opt to have part of their jaw removed, others choose chin implants to alter the shape of their face.
Dr. Jeffrey Spiegel, chief of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Boston University School of Medicine, said an increasing number of patients are opting to have the work done.
He said: “More and more people who are on the forefront of facial plastic surgery are realising that structural issues are critical. Changing bone – which is the underlying surface on which the skin is resting – is what allows you to really create good attractive changes.”
Dr. Ross Clevens, a cosmetic surgeon in Melbourne, Florida, said in his experience, silicone implants placed along the angle of the jaw are a popular way of creating a stronger facial feature.
He said: “What we more commonly see is men who want a more square, more angular … more masculine jaw line.”
The number of men considering cosmetic surgery has increased significantly in countries across the world in recent years. Figures released earlier this week claim that in some parts of India, there are more men booking appointments for liposuction than women.
