Cosmetic surgeons experience hectic New Year

Cosmetic surgery clinics are currently experiencing one of their busiest times of the year, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal.

The paper said that some surgeons will have performed twice as many procedures such as weight-loss surgery and facelifts in the last few days, as patients take advantage of the Christmas and New Year holidays which allow them extra time to recuperate.

Woman has frown muscle removed to prevent migraines

Botox can be used to reduce the pain associated with migraines, but one woman has gone a step further and had her frown muscle removed.

Pamela Mason, 47, who has suffered with migraines since the age of 14, was diagnosed as a regular sufferer and was advised to have her corrugator facial muscle removed. This is the muscle that allows a person to frown and is the muscle often targeted with Botox to relieve the pain of migraines.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Mrs Mason said: “It is wonderful. I have my life back again.

“I suffered for so long and I always thought that was just how life was going to be. I would spend days on end in bed, unable to move or do anything,” she added.

Liposuction is most popular procedure for 2011

Liposuction has been voted as the surgical procedure of the year in the 2011 Readers’ Choice Awards from online magazine American Health and Beauty.

In spite of the huge rise in popularity of non-surgical procedures such as Botox and laser hair removal, surgical procedures are still able to produce the most dramatic results and liposuction seems to have had the most transformative results.

Rising obesity levels in the US have been cited as one of the reasons why liposuction has gained so much popularity in recent years, even though the procedure is not designed to be used as a weight loss tool. Instead, liposuction surgery is used to remove stubborn pockets of fat in order to sculpt the body into the desired and well-proportioned shape.

Skincare industry booming despite downturn

Shopping malls in Malaysia have been enjoying a year-end boost to sales of skincare products, despite tough economic conditions.

In a report published by The Star online, a Malaysian news site, two major department stores in the country have reported good growth for the days following Christmas, particularly for skincare products, fashion and accessories.

Joyce Yap, chief executive officer (retail) of Pavilion KL, one of the department stores, said: “There doesn’t seem to be any sign of a slowdown in the traffic of shoppers at our mall. It is even busier this year compared to last year.”

Questions have been raised as to whether Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise has undergone cosmetic surgery.

According to reports, the 49-year-old actor is said to be looking extremely fresh-faced and younger than ever, sparking rumours that he has opted for treatments other than skin creams. And now a Brazilian magazine has claimed that the action star has been speaking to a well-known cosmetic surgeon.

Girls Aloud’s Sarah Harding pictured leaving cosmetic surgery clinic

Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding has been pictured leaving a cosmetic surgery clinic in London.

The blonde beauty, who has confessed to a stint in a rehabilitation clinic following the demise of her relationship with DJ Tom Crane, was photographed by the press yesterday. The 30-year-old looked relaxed, happy, and far from the distressed damsel she was just a few weeks ago.

Harding wore a cropped stripy jumper and skinny jeans to attend the London clinic, which is said to specialise in liposuction, breast enlargement and other surgical procedures.

Gwyneth Paltrow says yes to cosmetic surgery in the future

A-list Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow has revealed that she would consider having cosmetic surgery in the future.

In a frank interview with Extra TV, the 39-year-old wife of Coldplay singer Chris Martin said that when the time comes for her to decide, she’ll probably have a nip and tuck.

“Women should do whatever makes them feel good,” she said.

Cosmetic surgery on list of popular Christmas presents for 2011

Botox and surgical procedures including tummy tucks are topping the list of many people’s wish lists this Christmas.

Surgeons in Orange County, America, have noted a rise in the number of patients opting for non-surgical treatments and surgical procedures in the run-up to Christmas. One such example is Tina Franklin, a resident in Orange County, who has put Botox on her Christmas list because she wants to start the New Year feeling ‘fresh’.

Ms Franklin’s older sister Nicole Tuzzolino obliged her sister’s request and paid $650 (£415) for the treatment.

Boob job comes second on list of ‘original’ gift ideas

Boob jobs, tattoos and piercings have topped the list of alternative Christmas present ideas for 2011.

According to a poll conducted by price comparison site Gocompare.com, this year’s Christmas ideas swing between practical and unusual, with very little in between. Of those surveyed, 64 per cent admitted they are finding it harder and harder to buy truly original presents, with 43 per cent of people complaining that the people they are buying for already have everything.
