American demand for cosmetic procedures grew 6pc in 2012
Minimally-invasive non-surgical cosmetic procedures continue to grow in popularity among Americans, with the number of such treatments carried out rising by six per cent during the last full calendar year.
The figures, from a study published by the influential Time magazine, suggest that the market for such minimally-invasive procedures as Botox treatments, chemical peels, filler injections and microdermabrasion is proving resilient despite the wider fragility of the American economy.
However, one Beverly Hills cosmetic surgeon says he does not believe the convenience of modern methods is driving the increases – rather the ability of the latest technology to produce better and often longer-lasting results.
“Whatever the cause,” says Dr Simon Ourian, “this is the third consecutive year of increases driven by minimally invasive procedures.” And, he believes, that trend will continue at least for the next year.
These findings come on the back of other research carried out in the US, which has found several times that workers considered attractive often earn as much as five per cent more than similarly-skilled people doing the same job, but who don’t have the benefit of good looks.
