According to Helen Hawkes, who writes for the Northern Star in New South Wales, Australia, the main quest of her countrywomen is for a look which is “fresher but not fake”.

She spoke to registered cosmetic nurse Brooke Francisco, who has trained under specialists in facial and neck rejuvenation procedures. She says the cosmetic treatments which people most commonly seeks are those which “[keep them] looking like themselves.” (more…)

Woman having laser hair removal on upper lipAs societies around the world become ever more preoccupied with beauty, women in countries such as India are increasingly having to wrestle with balancing the new expectations with their own physiology.

Writing on Indian lifestyle website Boldsky.com, Tara Hari points out that, for example, cultural norms in the country deem facial hair on a woman a definite no-no, and adds: “Bleaching is also not a good option, as the golden hair on your face becomes painfully obvious in the sunlight.”

She goes on to suggest laser hair removal treatment as one of the most effective ways of eliminating facial hair growth.

Mobile phones could cause wrinkles, say cosmetic surgeons

Man with mobile phone to earYou might be a smooth communicator with everyone in your world thanks to your smartphone – but your appearance might not be so smooth in a few years’ time, according to American cosmetic surgeons.

The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery has backed up findings from a Minneapolis practitioner, who has seen repeated instances of patients suffering from drooping neck and face muscles which could be attributed to protracted mobile phone use.

And, reporting on the findings for Forbes magazine, John Stark, editor of its Next Avenue lifestyle section, confessed that he was one of the growing number of people addicted to using their smartphone. (more…)

Woman applying make-upBeing considered beautiful puts more money in your bank – and a new estimate from a top cosmetic surgeon suggests that the benefit could be worth as much as £150,000 over a lifetime.

According to Dr Bryan Mendelson, a former president of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ISAPS), good-looking people get more out of life in other ways too, enjoying better relationships.

Dr Mendelson suggests that this is because the human brain is hard-wired to appreciate good looks. (more…)

Bride in veilAs spring, the season of romance, bursts into full bloom, surgeons report that weddings are becoming an increasingly popular reason for booking an appointment to undergo a little cosmetic enhancement.

Dr Payam Jarrah-Nejad has told the Wall Street Journal that the “blissful, exhilarating and nerve-racking” months leading up to a bride’s wedding often nowadays include booking in a reputable cosmetic surgery to ensure that she looks her best as she walks down the aisle.

“A subtle, natural-looking breast augmentation, tummy tuck, or rhinoplasty can provide the self-confidence and aesthetically pleasing look every bride hopes for on her wedding day,” added the surgeon, who is widely known as ‘Dr J’ to his patients. (more…)

Irishmen not flinching at prospect of hair removal

Rear view of man in trunksWith notably hairless role models such as Colin Farrell and Daniel Craig blazing a trail, increasing numbers of Irishmen are heading to their local grooming salon for a little waxing.

One salon owner told the Irish Examiner newspaper that he is seeing up to 30 male clients a week, with from March until September the peak time, as men seek to get themselves buffed up in preparation for their holidays.

“Back, shoulders, chest and eyebrows are the most popular areas,” said Gavan Glynn, whose salon is in Ranelagh, just south of Dublin. (more…)

Gently does it is key to removing sun blemishes says Indian doc

78036003Image-conscious Indian women have been given a series of tips for removing tanning marks by one of the country’s leading cosmetic surgeons.

Dr Manjiri Patanmar Puranik says that signs of a tan can take up to a week to fade, and warns people not to resort to using products containing bleach to remove any marks caused by the sun.

The doctor, who runs clinics in India, Dubai and Kuwait, suggests exfoliating the skin to remove top layers of dehydrated skin, which will result in a more even skin tone. (more…)

That’s according to an article on The Huffington Post website, which has listed the effects of 11 common foods and ingredients, and the toll which an excess of any of them can take on the body.

In an article for the Times of India, five of the most common results of these have been addressed, and solutions offered which can ease the signs attributed to each of them.

Acne: High atmospheric humidity, stress and sweating are attributed as main causes of acne, and mean that it can be prevalent in people well beyond their adolescence. But the Times notes that an effective treatment can only be found by medical means, as cosmetic products will not provide a permanent solution. That is more likely to be achieved using the dedicated treatment PPx, which is the only laser treatment authorised for use in such circumstances. (more…)
