Men refusing to take aging on the chin

Friday, April 19th, 2013

Man's nose in profileThe desire for a more masculine face is “the new front line of cosmetic surgery for men”, according to an American news article.

Lesley Rotchford of Fox News reported that men are turning to cosmetic surgery to help them beat the effects of long working days, sleep deprivation and frequent hangovers.

She quoted an example of a man who said that “busting [his] butt working out four days a week” was keeping the rest of his body in shape, but could do nothing to stop the signs of aging appearing on his neck.

‘Nick’ (not his real name) is typical of many modern men in wanting a finely-honed, square-jawed look which reflects the bodily physique he works hard to maintain.

Dr Steven Tetelbaum, associate professor of plastic surgery at University College Los Angeles’ school of medicine, said: “There’s less of a desire now for a conventionally beautiful white-bread face. People are embracing strong features like ethnic, non-traditional noses.”

So in order to give their faces a balanced look, men were having chin implants – which have seen a recent increase of 71 per cent, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

And this popularity is also being driven by the availability of micro-liposuction procedures which can tighten up the jawline, and take as little as half an hour.

Mad Men star Hendricks’ curves fuel more surgery speculation

Thursday, April 18th, 2013

Woman cleavage red dressHer curves have helped make her a star, thanks to her role in TV series Mad Men – but as a new series of the show based in the heady world of the advertising business began this week across America and Canada, the rumours were again flying about whether Christina Hendricks has had cosmetic help to achieve her renowned hourglass figure.

And the actress’s refusal to either confirm or deny the rumours means that they are re-emerging with each new series.

Gossip website Dose.ca is just one which has re-ignited the talk – especially among Mad Men’s male fans – by publishing a picture of her from a Playboy photoshoot in 1999, sporting unremarkable-looking boobs, alongside a more recent one of her, complete with her now-trademark flame red hair, but also a copious helping of cleavage.

“There were also rumours of a nose job, but that’s minor compared to the huge – and you know that’s the right word for it – difference in her breast region,” remarked the Dose team.

Either way, it doesn’t make a jot of difference to the fact that Ms Hendricks was named sexiest woman in the world in 2010 by Esquire magazine, say her fans at Dose, who conclude: “Just admit it if you’ve done it.”

Surgeon claims success for liposuction treatment which minimises sagging

Wednesday, April 17th, 2013

Woman in bra and knickers pinching tummy fleshA cosmetic surgeon practising in Atlanta, Georgia is claiming that he and a team of researchers are on the way to achieving a liposuction method which eliminates the flabby and pale appearance of skin that often results from a traditional ‘tummy tuck’ procedure.

Dr Abbas Chamsuddin, a radiologist at the Centre for Laser and Interventional Surgery, claims that the new laser lipolysis procedure helps the skin produce new collagen, the protein which gives it its tone and texture, while also removing more fat, and resulting in the skin looking tighter than before the procedure.

“Many women who have standard liposuction are discouraged because often the skin sags after the fat is removed,” Dr Chamsuddin said. (more…)
