BAAPS talks about new eyebrow transplant procedure

A new eyebrow transplant procedure is fast gaining popularity as a new cosmetic surgery option in the UK, according to the British Association of Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS).

The Telegraph reports that the treatment, which was first carried out in the US to reconstruct the eyebrows of burns victims, is being requested by patients in Britain who have spent their lives over-tweezing their brows. (more…)

‘Bridesmaid’s bulge’ becomes new target for cosmetic surgeons

A British cosmetic surgery expert has commented on the increasing number of patients requesting the removal of excess flesh beneath the armpit – an area that he has coined the ‘bridesmaid’s bulge’.

Dr Paul Cronin, a member of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, said: “Technically, it’s the anterior ancillary fat pad, but I think the ‘bridesmaid’s bulge’ is more catchy – it has certainly caught on here. (more…)

UK breast enlargement operations soar over five years

The number of breast enlargement operations carried out in the UK has almost tripled over the last five years, according to a recent report.

The research was presented last week at the annual conference of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) – one of the country’s most important cosmetic surgery bodies – and is widely believed to be the largest ever study in breast augmentation surgery in Britain. (more…)

BAAPS reveal concerns about cosmetic surgery advertising standards

The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) has said that it is “increasingly concerned” by some clinics in the cosmetic surgery field using misleading sales techniques.

The association warned that such advertising strategies as using unrealistically-proportioned models and creating unrealistic expectations of what the capabilities of many types of surgery are.

Delegates in attendance at the BAAPS annual conference viewed a range of adverts by cosmetic surgery companies that involved questionable marketing techniques and have since criticised clinics over certain misleading advertising practices. (more…)

Botox could have long term effects

Botox, the favoured non-surgical anti-ageing procedure of thousands of cosmetic surgery fans across the world, could have long term effects for people who have been using the treatment for many years.

According to The Telegraph, new research indicates that patients who received regular Botox injections over the course of nine years or more had “significantly” higher brows than those that indulged in the occasional, one off treatment. (more…)

BAAPS says cosmetic surgery could be ‘beneficial’ for young people

Selected cosmetic procedures could have “hugely beneficial effects” on younger people, according to a new survey by the British Association of Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery (BAAPS).

The research showed that over a quarter of BAAPS surgeons had been approached by up to 10 patients aged below 20 years about corrective plastic surgery. (more…)
