Skincare industry booming despite downturn

Shopping malls in Malaysia have been enjoying a year-end boost to sales of skincare products, despite tough economic conditions.

In a report published by The Star online, a Malaysian news site, two major department stores in the country have reported good growth for the days following Christmas, particularly for skincare products, fashion and accessories.

Joyce Yap, chief executive officer (retail) of Pavilion KL, one of the department stores, said: “There doesn’t seem to be any sign of a slowdown in the traffic of shoppers at our mall. It is even busier this year compared to last year.”

The number of men in their 50s having cosmetic surgery has risen by 140% in five years. Liposuction to remove unwanted fat comes out top, says The Harley Medical Group. The group’s director, Liz Dale, said yesterday: “Men letting themselves go is no longer an accurate picture.”
