Experts urge patients to expect more from breast reconstruction
Thursday, March 10th, 2011Women who choose to have breast reconstruction surgery following a mastectomy should not be left dissatisfied with the results, according to one plastic surgeon.
Mr Dalvi Humzah, a member of the British Association of Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons, said: “With breast cancer being diagnosed in one in eight women in the UK, it has never been so important for women to feel confident in the results of reconstructive surgery following breast cancer.
“Women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer should not feel uncomfortable in approaching specialist cosmetic surgeons for further reconstructive treatment following their original reconstructive surgery.”
The latest statistics from Breast Cancer Care reveal that the number of women being diagnosed with the illness in the UK has risen from 46,000 to 47,000, meaning that it is more important than ever for those women who want it, to receive specialist reconstructive breast surgery.
