Breast reduction patients the happiest of all

Friday, May 27th, 2011

A recent survey asked women who had undergone cosmetic surgery how happy they were with the results, and breast reduction surgery patients were revealed as the most content.

A plastic surgery forum showed that 86 per cent of breast reduction patients described the procedure as ‘worth it’, which placed it in the top 10 cosmetic surgery procedures in terms of patient satisfaction.

The positive comments, posted on RealSelf.com, will come as no surprise to many plastic surgeons who see the chronic back and neck pain women with overly large breasts can suffer with.

Dr Gus Galante, a specialist plastic surgeon working in Indiana, said: “I’ve noticed for years that breast reduction typically produces a level of satisfaction that matches or exceeds even the most popular of procedures, such as breast augmentation, at my Indiana practice.

“In my opinion, this is because there are real physical benefits to the surgery, as well as emotional ones,” he added.

NHS turns its back on cosmetic surgery

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

The NHS in Warrington has taken the decision to ban non-urgent procedures such as thread vein removal and face lifts from its hospitals.

The decision was made as pressure mounts to cut costs and free up budgets for medical rather than cosmetic procedures. A spokesperson for the region’s health service explained that the changes are about prioritising the most serious cases.

“If the PCT funds cosmetic surgery for example, money will be diverted from patients with greater clinical need and people do have the right to appeal”, the spokesperson said.

Liposuction, weight loss surgery, and breast reduction surgery are also on the list of procedures no longer being offered by the NHS in Warrington. Decisions were made on which procedures to remove from the list after consultations with healthcare professionals and by working in line with the principles of the Cheshire and Merseyside PCT’s Prior Approval and Procedures of Limited Clinical Priority policy.

Cosmetic surgeon advises clients that liposuction is not a weight loss tool

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

Last night, Channel 4 aired the first episode of its controversial reality television show Beauty and the Beast: Ugly Face of Prejudice, in which a plastic surgeon advised that liposuction should not be used as a weight loss tool.

Beauty obsessive Yasmin Disney attended a consultation with cosmetic surgeon Mr Patrick Mallucci to discuss breast reduction surgery and liposuction on her inner thighs and stomach. But far from encouraging Disney to undergo the procedures, Mr Mallucci advised her to undertake a weight loss programme first.

Disney was accompanied to the consultation by Leo Gormley, a 60-year-old father of two who has a significant facial disfigurement caused by third degree burns. Gormley has undergone more than 120 reconstructive plastic surgery procedures to repair damage done to his face, hands, and legs, and campaigns against the idea of a beauty ideal.

At the start of the show, Gormley was anti-cosmetic surgery for beauty’s sake, but he soon realised that the psychological damage caused by the negative attention Disney received as a result of her J-cup breasts, was reason enough to consider breast reduction.
