Winner of Bridalplasty got less cosmetic surgery than she bargained for

Friday, February 4th, 2011

Allyson Donovan, the winner of controversial reality television show Bridalplasty, has told reporters that she received less cosmetic surgery than she bargained for.

Donovan, who is from Chicago, Illinois, posted a status update on social networking site Facebook to say: “Hey, I didn’t get thigh lipo. lol :)

The bride-to-be was announced as the winner of the show last week, and as a result won all of the cosmetic surgery procedures that were on her wish-list, as well as enough money to pay for her dream wedding. But having lost a significant amount of weight during the course of the 12-week series, some of the procedures, such as thigh liposuction, were no longer necessary.

When asked why she took part in the show, Donovan said: “I just wanted what a lot of women that are in their 30s that have had children want: to lose the baby weight, get rid of the belly pouch, erase wrinkles and have boobs that don’t sag down to your belly button. And I was given the chance to compete for it for free.”

Winner of Bridalplasty revealed

Tuesday, February 1st, 2011

Bride-to-be Allyson Donovan has been announced as the winner of controversial American reality television show Bridalplasty.

Donovan, from Illinois, pipped fellow contestant and New Yorker Jenessa Wainwright to the post, after weeks of wedding-related challenges.

From the opening scenes of the final episode, Donovan was convinced that she would be victorious.

“This is real and quite frankly I am ready to get it on. Allyson – the Chicago born, beer drinking trucker bride is going to be named the winner!”

The winner was chosen by fellow contestants who had been voted off throughout the process. The finalists had to write a speech explaining why they should win, and former competitors then had to choose which of the brides’ weddings they would prefer to attend.

Donovan will now undergo all seven of the surgical procedures on her wish list, which includes liposuction of the chin, tummy tuck, laser skin resurfacing, and breast reduction. She will also win her dream wedding.

Cosmetic surgery and reality TV

Friday, January 28th, 2011

Some people will compete in just about any kind of competition if the chance for fame and fortune, or a so-called ‘better life’, is up for grabs. So when television producers came up with the idea of contestants, specifically brides-to-be, competing to win cosmetic surgery procedures, the show was bound to attract a lot of interest.

Here comes the bride, short, fat, and wide, so the parody goes, but not any longer. Please stand for the arrival of Bridalplasty. The latest reality TV show to come out of America pits brides-to-be against each other in weekly competitions to win cosmetic surgery. Contestants pick procedures off their wish-lists and the overall winner receives $100,000 to pay for their dream wedding, having achieved their perfect look.

Critics have hailed this as a new low for the genre of reality TV, and quite frankly, it’s hard to disagree, with its only redeeming feature being that it puts cosmetic surgery firmly in the mainstream.

Hollyoaks actress Jennifer Metcalfe, ex-Atomic Kitten Kerry Katona, and American reality television star Kim Kardashian, have all been associated with cosmetic surgery procedures in recent weeks, raising the profiles of liposuction, stretch mark removal treatments, breast implants, and dermal fillers even further.

So with the exclusivity of cosmetic surgery firmly in the past, men and women all over the world are finding financial packages that allow them to opt for surgical and non-surgical treatments.  And recent findings suggest that cosmetic surgery is not just the basis for gratuitous reality television programmes, but is also giving renewed confidence to cancer patients who have aged prematurely as the result of treatment.
