Australia launches cosmetic surgery seal of approval system

A new system is set to be established in Australia aimed at helping people find suitably qualified cosmetic surgery professionals.

The Australasian College of Cosmetic Surgery will announce a new cosmetic industry code of practice at a conference due to be held in Cairns tomorrow. The new official seal of approval will be given to clinics that comply with the various standards set down by the organisation.

Women have face lifts and breast implants to improve self-confidence, not to impress men

Women have breast surgery and face lifts for a whole variety of reasons, but improving self-confidence is top of the list according to industry experts.

The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) says women who choose to have breast implants tend to fall into two categories – young women who feel their breasts are too small and mothers who have given birth to two or three children and want a firmer bust.

Brides spend less on wedding dresses, more on cosmetic surgery

Brides are spending more on cosmetic surgery to look good, than they are on their dress for the big day.

According to latest figures, one in 10 women spent money on a cosmetic surgical procedure or non-surgical treatment in the run up to their wedding. Breast enlargement was cited as one of the most popular surgical procedures chosen by this group of people, while Botox topped the non-surgical treatments list.

Brides make up 30 per cent of one clinic’s clientele, and cosmetic practitioner Antonia Mariconda believes she knows why.

Koreans lead the way in per capita cosmetic surgery figures

South Korea is the world’s largest market for cosmetic surgery procedures, according to newly-released industry statistics.

Data suggests that per capita, more people in South Korea have undergone a procedure than in any other country in the world. A survey carried out in the country found that 20 per cent of women between the ages of 19 and 49, living in the capital city Seoul, had had cosmetic surgery.

53% of Americans spend money on anti-ageing, including liposuction

Wealthy Americans are spending their money on expensive anti-ageing treatments, weight loss and techniques to help maintain a good memory.

This is according to a recent survey which found that 53 per cent of Americans who earn $150,000 per year or more are spending money on keeping the visible signs of ageing at bay – including weight loss and liposuction to keep themselves in shape.

Baby boomers ‘not built to grow old gracefully’

Baby boomers, those born during the post-War “boom”, are not ‘built to grow old gracefully’ and they are spending more on healthcare than their parents did.

This is according to a report published Coloradoan.com, which also states that healthcare includes everything from physiotherapy to cosmetic surgery procedures. The article, written by Michael Arloski, Ph.D, says that “their impact on the marketplace for health and wellness products and services is huge and unprecedented”.

Line and wrinkle treatments can last for six months

Experts have stated that the effects of line and wrinkle treatments – such as Botox – can last for up to six months.

Botox, which is used to soften smile and frown lines, chin creases, forehead wrinkles and crow’s feet, can provide lasting results, allowing patients to make twice-yearly appointments with their cosmetic surgery clinics to stay looking young.

A statement released by the Belage Center for Facial Plastic Surgery in Houston, Texas, read: “When injected by an experienced facial plastic surgeon, Botox can provide rapid results.”
