US surgeon says Generation X is driving demand for “aesthetic maintenance”

Dr Michael McCracken, who heads up a cosmetic surgery clinic in Colorado, has said that people in the 31 to 45 age group are behind an increase in demand for cosmetic procedures.

His views are backed up by the latest figures to be published by The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), which showed that Generation X – those aged between 31 and 45 – accounted for 43 per cent of cosmetic procedures last year.

Demand for nose reshaping surgery soars among Saudi women

Women in Saudi Arabia are increasingly turning to cosmetic surgery, one of the country’s leading plastic surgeons has said.

In an interview with The Saudi Gazette, Dr Ayman Farhat, a consultant plastic surgeon working in Saudi Arabia, said: “The most common beauty procedures that Saudi women are scheduling are liposuction, plastic surgery on the nose, Botox injections and fillers, and hair removal by laser. Men also seek treatment, mainly for plastic surgery and reshaping of the nose, hair implants, and liposuction.”

Generation X defying US economy by opting for cosmetic surgery

Generation X is defying the struggling US economy by shelling out their hard-earned wages on cosmetic surgery.

According to a recent study by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), in 2010, 43 per cent of all cosmetic surgery procedures were carried out on those aged between 31 and 45 – ‘Generation X’. Those aged between 51 and 64 – the so-called ‘baby boomers’ – accounted for just 28 per cent.

Dita Von Teese talks lines, wrinkles and sugar-free diet

Burlesque star Dita Von Teese is internationally renowned for her incredible body and suggestive stage routines. And according to the performer, her figure can be put down to a combination of good genes, healthy eating and on occasion cosmetic procedures.

Speaking to OK! magazine, Von Teese said choosing the right foods is an important part of staying healthy and keeping in shape. She said sugar is one foodstuff that she has cut out completely by training her body not to crave it.

Kylie Minogue tweets annoyance at cosmetic surgery rumours

Australian singer and actress Kylie Minogue has responded to suggestions that she has gone back to using Botox to help maintain her youthful appearance.

The star was pictured attending an event in London earlier this week, which led to rumours circulating that she had once again turned to dermal fillers to banish lines and wrinkles. In an interview last year Kylie admitted she had used the product in the past but said had no intention of doing so again.

Allergan creates 400 jobs at new research facility

The popularity of dermal fillers and cosmetic surgery treatments has led one product manufacturer to invest $12m in a new research and development facility.

California-based Allergan, known around the world for its line and wrinkle treatment Botox, has announced it is to build a new 100,000 sq ft base in New Jersey. The company has yet to choose a specific site, but Allergan said it expects to create 400 new jobs in the state over the next five years.

Couples cosmetic surgery is latest trend

America is experiencing a surge in demand for couples cosmetic surgery, with people choosing to grow young together.

Medical director of Reflections Centre in New Jersey, USA, Dr Mitchell Chasin, said: “Years ago, we would see a wife come in and she would say, ‘I can’t let my husband know what I’m doing’. And then the husband would come in and he would say, ‘you know what, this is a secret, please don’t tell my wife’.”

Doctor warns against at-home silicone injections

An expert has spoken out to warn consumers about the dangers of self-administering silicone injections or having them done in your own home.

President of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) Dr Malcolm Z Roth voiced his concerns about the potentially fatal consequences of so-called ‘pumping parties’. Such parties involve silicone dermal fillers being administered illegally and without supervision to the face, breasts and buttocks and Dr Roth warns that they can be extremely dangerous.

Teri Hatcher’s wrinkle-free face sparks cosmetic surgery rumours

Appearing at the PRIX Montblanc party in Berlin, Hollywood actress Teri Hatcher sparked rumours that she has rekindled her love affair with Botox.

The 46-year-old has readily admitted to getting Botox injections regularly but claimed last year that she had stopped. Her smooth, wrinkle-free face has raised suspicions that she has returned to regular Botox, with great results that had fans amazed at how little she had changed from her days as Lois Lane in Superman.
