Jane Fonda: Cosmetic surgery integral to youthful appearance
Oscar-winning actress Jane Fonda, still hailed by many as a beauty at the age of 73, has revealed that cosmetic surgery is among her tips for ageing gracefully.
At the age of 72 she underwent procedures to minimise the effects of ageing along her jawline and under her eyes, to make her face appear less ‘droopy’
“I felt pretty terrific, but I always looked tired,” she said. “I got tired of not looking like how I felt.”
Fonda’s other tips for mature beauty success include a positive attitude about advancing years; reflecting on your background and past; letting go of perfectionism; being independent; being open to intimacy at all stages of life; avoiding unhealthy practices; getting plenty of sleep – and remaining engaged in life.
“Learn who you really are to become a whole person,” she said. “It takes a lot of courage, because all of the culture is telling us we’re supposed to be this way or that way.
“Try to be authentic; try to discover it. And stay interested. That’s much more important than being interesting.”

Don’t go too far with cosmetic surgery, women warned

Dermal fillers

Women planning to undergo cosmetic surgery are being warned not to go too far when it comes to treatments such as dermal fillers.

Criticism has recently been levelled at veteran pop star Madonna, 53, who is reported to be the subject of procedures which have left her face appearing more well-padded than usual.

Daily Mail columnist Liz Jones said: “[Madonna] appears most recently to have overdone the amount of filler she has pumped into her skin to the point where I worry she might pop.

“You become seduced by a certain cosmetic procedure, and cling to it like an inflatable life raft, thinking it will save you.

“The problem is that it can be so easy to lose track not only of reality, but of what is acceptable, desirable, attainable and affordable.”

Jones was keen to point out that a little surgery can be a good thing, being a fan herself – but anyone who goes too far is at risk of spiralling towards the problematic appearance of famous examples such as Jocelyn Wildenstein.

Louis Walsh vows to have more cosmetic surgery ‘to survive’

Tuesday, May 17th, 2011

Irish band manager Louis Walsh has admitted that he would have more cosmetic surgery if it meant he secured his place on the judging panel for the latest series of the X Factor.

The 58-year-old has already admitted to having surgery to remove his eye bags and cosmetic treatments to whiten his teeth, allegedly on Simon Cowell’s insistence. Walsh last night told reporters that cosmetic surgery was essential in his industry and that “if you want to last, you have to do it.”

The music mogul’s comments come amid reports that one of the show’s regular judges, Dannii Minogue, has already been axed, with her replacement yet to be announced. Cowell, 51, has been concentrating on the promotion of the US version of the talent show, taking Cheryl Cole with him to join Paula Abdul on the judging panel.  He is yet to comment on the controversy surrounding Minogue or Walsh.

Daily Mail reporter writes diary of eye bag surgery

Thursday, May 12th, 2011

Daily Mail reporter Diana Appleyard has written a comprehensive diary of her recent eye bag removal surgery in a bid to give cosmetic surgery a new perspective.

The 50-year-old, who is married with two children, Beth 22, and Charlotte, 17, decided to opt for the surgery after seeing pictures of herself in which she thought she looked “103 years old”. But she didn’t tell her husband or daughters that she had booked in for a consultation, and left it until the surgery was booked to confide in her family.

Appleyard’s reasoning behind the surgery was not pure vanity, she explained, but instead a way of removing a problem that she saw as “genetic”.

“There is mad psychology in my wanting this eye procedure”, she wrote.

“I have told myself my eye bags are genetic — my father had lots of loose skin under his eyes — and so in my view this operation is somehow ‘medical’”.

Despite her reasons, she was adamant that this would be it for cosmetic surgery, something her husband was grateful for. Now Appleyard says she can’t help looking in the mirror and thinking “Oh it’s you – but better!”
