Cosmetic surgery hots up for summer

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

57280023Plastic surgeons in New Orleans have noted a rise in the number of enquiries for body-shaping procedures, such as liposuction, in the run up to the summer months.

Dr Michelle M Cooper, who runs a cosmetic surgery clinic in the city, issued a press release in which she said that many of her patients were unable to the bodies they want simply by healthy eating and regular exercise.

“Many of my patients have been exercising and following a healthy diet in order to prepare for the warmer summer months, but they still have certain problem areas that just don’t seem to improve – such as ‘love handles’ or ‘saddle bags’, said Dr Cooper.

“Plastic surgery procedures such as liposuction or a tummy tuck are often chosen to correct those minor imperfections and give them the body they have worked so hard to attain,” she added.

Cosmetic surgery clinics in the UK have also seen a rise in the number of enquiries in the spring months, with many patients opting for breast implants, laser hair removal and liposuction before the bikini season starts.

Kardashian is role model for being body confident

Monday, June 6th, 2011

jeans girl #2American socialite and reality television star Kim Kardashian has spoken out about cosmetic surgery in the latest issue of Australia’s Cosmopolitan magazine.

The newly-engaged star features on the cover of the glossy fashion magazine wearing a sequined mini dress that emphasizes her toned curves. In the accompanying interview she attributes her curvaceous bottom to her father’s side of the family.

She said: “I’m half Armenian, so the butt really comes from my dad’s side of the family. It’s a little bit bigger so you do have to work out more. I do squats and lunges. I try to do whatever I can to work out. It’s all real.”

Despite dismissing butt implant rumours as ‘ridiculous’, the 30-year-old is not averse to cosmetic surgery, having admitted to having Botox injections and laser hair removal in recent years. Her mother and sister Kourtney have both admitted to having breast implants.

Line and Wrinkle treatments top list of most popular treatments

Thursday, May 19th, 2011

Botox and dermal fillers have once again topped the list of most popular non-surgical treatments, according to recent figures.

Statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) show that last year alone Botox earned $5.4 million, soft tissue fillers $1.8 million, chemical peels $1.1 million, laser hair removal $938,000, and microdermabrasion $825,000.

President of the ASPS, Dr Phil Haeck, said: “Injectables have remained robust despite the economy. Botox and Dysport injections are up 12 percent.”

Jeff Russell, executive director of the International Association for Physicians in Aesthetic Medicine (IAPAM) has noticed the vigorous growth in this area too.

“We are hearing from our members that minimally invasive procedures like Botox and other cosmetic injectables, medically supervised hCG weight loss, as well as laser training, microdermabrasion and chemical peels are in tremendous demand by patients,” he said.

Experts believe that the growth of such treatments will continue to be vigorous and have predicted high profits from Botox and other injectable treatments.

Botox boom as temperature rises

Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

Cosmetic surgery clinics in America have seen a rise in the number of Botox enquiries as patients prepare to look their best in time for the summer.

Dr Monica Bonakdar, who runs a clinic in Orange County, has noticed a significant jump in the number of people asking for Botox, laser hair removal and other non-surgical treatments. She attributes this to the onset of warmer weather.

“Botox cosmetic is a great way to enjoy the sun, while maintaining youthful-looking skin,” says Dr Bonakdar.

“It is injected into facial muscles to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and provides an easy alternative to surgery. Men and women don’t want to spend their summers recovering inside, so instead they are turning to simpler treatments.”

Dr Bonakdar also talked about the rise in popularity of laser hair removal as more people discover benefits such as permanently removed or reduced hair, and the reduction of ingrown hairs and rashes associated with shaving and plucking.

Kim Kardashian has laser hair removal and a manicure

Kim Kardashian is no stranger to cosmetic treatments, and she has once again been photographed attending a clinic in Beverley Hills to top up her laser hair removal treatments.

The 30-year-old socialite went totally make-up free and dressed in a very casual outfit to attend the clinic, choosing a pair of ripped jeans, a black wrap-around cardigan and simple rubber flip flops. Her trademark long chocolate brown hair was tied back in a loose ponytail but she was not without her oversized sunglasses.

As well as getting laser hair removal, which she admits to having on her forehead to rid it of ‘baby hair’, Kardashian treated herself to a manicure and a pedicure in time. The pampering trip appeared to be in preparation for an event hosted by Britney Spears to raise money for the St Bernard Project, to which she wore a much more fitting (for her) tight white and gold mini dress and turquoise heels.

Botox and laser hair removal top choices for brides-to-be

Thursday, May 12th, 2011

Brides-to-be are increasingly making cosmetic surgery and non-surgical procedures a part of their preparations, and Botox and laser hair removal are among the most popular treatments.

Cosmetic laser technician Kevin Shwenk believes it is because of the short downtime that hair removal and fillers are so popular, and while cosmetic surgeon Dr Wayne Perron agrees, he reports seeing a number of brides-to-be and husbands-to-be for surgical procedures.

Male chest reduction and liposuction are top of the list men’s requests he tells the Calgary Herald.

“They want to make sure they are able to take their shirt off and feel comfortable around the pool and beach,” says Dr Perron.

And while it is true that an engaged couple has a lot to think about in the run-up to the big day, achieving the perfect appearance seems to be taking precedence over finding caterers and booking the honeymoon.

Dr Perron says he sees often meets  engaged women a year before their wedding day to discuss liposuction that can help to sculpt their dream curves before they choose their wedding dress.

Wednesday, May 11th, 2011

Quirky singer Paloma Faith has told online magazine MyDaily.co.uk that she had laser hair removal to get bikini-ready for the summer.

Talking to the magazine, Faith said: “I’ve had laser hair-removal treatment – it’s amazing. It’s so good. It’s permanent hair removal which is great.”

The 25-year-old songwriter also talked about how she stays in shape, and while she says she has got far from the perfect figure, she admitted that she is not prepared to do what it takes to get it! She talked about running just to keep from getting out of breath on stage.

“I go running, but that’s only because I get out of breath at gigs in-between songs if I don’t. As my career has grown, the stages have got bigger, and I’m noticing how unfit I am!” she said.

As the new face of the latest Tia Maria campaign, Faith is expanding her already eclectic career and she knows that image is a big part of her success. When asked whether she ever dresses down, she talked about using her image to keep a bit of privacy and admitted to therefore only dressing down in private.
