Overcoming a real confidence killer

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

Here at The Harley Medical Group, I quite often see people who have some pretty bad confidence problems. One of my favourite parts of the job has to be seeing the way that some people come to us feeling really bad about themselves, then leave feeling a whole lot better after their surgery or non surgical treatments. However, it’s not often I see anyone so in need of a confidence boost as Gail Edwards.

I read about Gail in The Scottish Sun today. She’s a beautiful woman who married her ex-husband when she was only 22, only for him to try and kill her 20 years later. After suffering physical and mental abuse at his hands for so long, Gail understandably found it very hard to get over the experience – even when her ex-husband was jailed.

The brave mother of two found herself still struggling to readjust three years after the final attack, and finally decided she’d use the money left to her by her mother to have cosmetic surgery. Gail chose to have a tummy tuck and liposuction and now feels that she’s found a way to take control of her life and her future again – by boosting her self confidence.

She explained: “It might sound odd, but cosmetic surgery helped me get my life back together. It helped lay the demons to rest.”

Good luck to her is all I can say, that and congratulations for getting her life back on track despite being in such a destructive relationship for so long.

Kerry Katona considers boob job to complete her makeover

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

Kerry Katona has never made a secret of her love for cosmetic surgery, and the former Atomic Kitten singer recently revealed that she wants another boob job.

The 29-year-old star, who first rose to fame in the original line-up of the successful girl group before becoming a TV icon, previously had a breast lift in 2008 to correct her sagging bust as well as breast reduction to take her from GG cup down to a DD.

Now Kerry wants her big boobs back, and told the Daily Star on Sunday that she is planning a breast augmentation to take her back to a 30GG.

“I want bigger boobs – I’m thinking about having something done,” Kerry said.

“I definitely see myself having more plastic surgery and it’s my boobs I’d want to change. I wouldn’t rule out more operations.”

After a turbulent year in 2008, that saw the star dropping four dress sizes and six stone in nine months, following liposuction and a strict diet, Kerry said she is more comfortable in her body and will choose cosmetic surgery more carefully in the future.

Speaking after her first breast surgery, Kerry said: “After four kids I need it. When I take my bra off my nipples are by my feet.

“I feel sexier, my confidence has come back and everyone keeps telling me how amazing I look, which is really cool.”

90 per cent of Brits now consider cosmetic surgery

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

More Brits have expressed their desire for cosmetic surgery enhancements than ever before, with 90 per cent saying they had thought about improving some part of their body through surgery.

A survey of 2,500 women reported by the Metro revealed that the summer weather is causing more women across Britain to look towards plastic surgery as a way to achieve their ideal bikini body. The most common area women said they wanted to improve was their stomachs, with 68 per cent expressing desire for a tummy tuck.

In second place was liposuction – previously claimed to be the world’s most popular procedure – with 29 per cent saying they wanted the treatment to get rid of excess fat.

After the tummy, the areas of the body women said they were least happy with were their legs, bottoms and busts, with four per cent saying they would choose some form of breast surgery and six per cent desiring cosmetic surgery on their buttocks. The most frequently cited celebrity inspirations for women’s bodies were cosmetic surgery fans Kelly Brook and Katie Price.

Non surgical treatments such as Botox and laser hair removal were found to be popular too, though were considered less vital to achieving a beach body. Only 10 per cent of the women questioned said they would not consider any form of enhancement, suggesting cosmetic surgery is becoming ever more popular.

Jake Gyllenhaal rumoured to have nose job

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

Hollywood star Jake Gyllenhaal may be looking to boost his credentials as a leading man with a little help from cosmetic surgery. The Prince of Persia star is rumoured to have had a rhinoplasty to make his nose more defined.

Make Me Heal reports that the 29-year-old star may have had a nose job to narrow the tip of his nose, reducing its wide and round appearance. Having already been voted one of the world’s 50 Most Beautiful People in 2006 by People magazine, Jake is evidently making the most of his looks.

Miami-based cosmetic surgeon Dr Michael Salzhauer agreed, stating: “Jake Gyllenhaal is flaunting an improved looking nose. The tip of his nose has been defined and narrowed. Looks fantastic and really gives his face a sculpted look.”

Plastic surgery is nothing new in the Gyllenhaal family, with Jake’s older sister Maggie also being rumoured to have had a nose job as well as a possible breast lift, eye lift, liposuction on her chin and even a mini neck lift.

The 32-year-old actress may also have had non surgical treatments to hold back the signs of ageing, such as chemical peels and Botox.

Jake’s career continues to go from strength to strength, following up his appearance in Disney’s animated feature Prince of Persia: Sands of Time this summer with upcoming lead roles in the romantic comedy Nailed, opposite Jessica Biel, and drama film Love and Other Drugs, alongside Anne Hathaway.

Liposuction claimed to be world’s most popular cosmetic treatment

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

A new study has suggested that liposuction is now the world’s most sought-after cosmetic surgery procedure, accounting for 18.8 per cent of all treatments carried out worldwide.

The fat removal procedure was previously identified as the world’s third most popular treatment, after breast augmentation and nose reshaping. However, a recent survey of cosmetic surgery treatments in 25 countries, carried out by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) revealed that breast augmentation and nose jobs now account for 17 and 9.4 per cent of surgeries, respectively.

The Irish Times reports that blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, has also risen in popularity to become the third most popular treatment at 13.5 per cent, overtaking rhinoplasty for the first time.

Non surgical treatments were also found to be on the rise, having now overtaken cosmetic surgery to account for 8.7 million treatments worldwide, compared to 8.5 million for more invasive treatments.

The top three non-surgical procedures were found to be toxin injections, which accounted for nearly a third of all non-surgical treatments, and collagen injections, at 20.1 per cent. Laser hair removal is now the world’s third most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment, accounting for 13.1 per cent of treatments.

ISAPS, which regulates cosmetic surgery treatments across the globe, also estimated that there are around 31,000 certified plastic surgeons working today. By choosing a certified cosmetic surgeon, patients can rest assured that their treatments are being carried out by safe and experienced hands.

British representatives have been invited to sit on a new committee set up in Brussels, which may finally agree on standard regulations for cosmetic surgery in the UK.
