Liposuction patients should be ‘within reach of ideal weight’

An expert has reiterated that the ideal candidates for liposuction, or fat removal surgery, are those who are close to or at their ideal weight.

Plastic surgeons at the Marietta Plastic Surgery clinic in America said that the operation ‘can be combined with procedures such as a body lift or tummy tuck following significant weight loss, but should not be seen as an alternative to a healthy diet and exercise’.

TOWIE boosts cosmetic surgery industry

The cast of reality television show The Only Way Is Essex (TOWIE) has boosted the economy by £1.4bn – more than the Duchess of Cambridge – according to retail experts.

The sales of white stilettos were up 33%, lacy underwear up 73% and hairdryers up 51%, but even more impressive were the sales of Nailene false nails – up 567% after viewers saw these being used on the ITV show, and false eyelashes, up 249%.

Patients use cosmetic surgery as a reward

More and more people are viewing cosmetic surgery as a reward for reaching personal goals, including weight loss.

A cosmetic surgeon working in Memphis, USA, has told a local newspaper that he treats many patients who have been thinking about their options for some time.

Dr Adam Baker said: “[Cosmetic surgery] is a reward for them and I hear them say all the time, when I hit this weight, when I lose 10 or 15 pounds, then I’m coming in. When I hit this goal, this is what I want.”

Demi Moore reveals battle with weight and ageing

Hollywood actress Demi Moore has admitted that she has battled with her body for decades, and is only now learning to love it.

The 49-year-old mother of three revealed that she has had to learn that her body is not an enemy that she needs to starve or exercise to death.

In an interview published in the Harper’s Bazaar February issue, Moore talked openly about her self-confidence and how this has changed with age.

Miami is home to vainest people in the US, says survey

The coastal city of Miami, in the US state of Florida, has the most vain residents in the country, according to a new poll.

Research carried out by daily deals website LivingSocial, found that most of the city’s residents said they were “a seven”, when asked to rank themselves on a scale of one to 10 with regard to their looks.

Cosmetic surgeons experience hectic New Year

Cosmetic surgery clinics are currently experiencing one of their busiest times of the year, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal.

The paper said that some surgeons will have performed twice as many procedures such as weight-loss surgery and facelifts in the last few days, as patients take advantage of the Christmas and New Year holidays which allow them extra time to recuperate.

Liposuction is most popular procedure for 2011

Liposuction has been voted as the surgical procedure of the year in the 2011 Readers’ Choice Awards from online magazine American Health and Beauty.

In spite of the huge rise in popularity of non-surgical procedures such as Botox and laser hair removal, surgical procedures are still able to produce the most dramatic results and liposuction seems to have had the most transformative results.

Rising obesity levels in the US have been cited as one of the reasons why liposuction has gained so much popularity in recent years, even though the procedure is not designed to be used as a weight loss tool. Instead, liposuction surgery is used to remove stubborn pockets of fat in order to sculpt the body into the desired and well-proportioned shape.

Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding has been pictured leaving a cosmetic surgery clinic in London.

The blonde beauty, who has confessed to a stint in a rehabilitation clinic following the demise of her relationship with DJ Tom Crane, was photographed by the press yesterday. The 30-year-old looked relaxed, happy, and far from the distressed damsel she was just a few weeks ago.

Harding wore a cropped stripy jumper and skinny jeans to attend the London clinic, which is said to specialise in liposuction, breast enlargement and other surgical procedures.

Demand for nose reshaping surgery soars among Saudi women

Women in Saudi Arabia are increasingly turning to cosmetic surgery, one of the country’s leading plastic surgeons has said.

In an interview with The Saudi Gazette, Dr Ayman Farhat, a consultant plastic surgeon working in Saudi Arabia, said: “The most common beauty procedures that Saudi women are scheduling are liposuction, plastic surgery on the nose, Botox injections and fillers, and hair removal by laser. Men also seek treatment, mainly for plastic surgery and reshaping of the nose, hair implants, and liposuction.”
