Line and Wrinkle treatments top list of most popular treatments

Thursday, May 19th, 2011

Botox and dermal fillers have once again topped the list of most popular non-surgical treatments, according to recent figures.

Statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) show that last year alone Botox earned $5.4 million, soft tissue fillers $1.8 million, chemical peels $1.1 million, laser hair removal $938,000, and microdermabrasion $825,000.

President of the ASPS, Dr Phil Haeck, said: “Injectables have remained robust despite the economy. Botox and Dysport injections are up 12 percent.”

Jeff Russell, executive director of the International Association for Physicians in Aesthetic Medicine (IAPAM) has noticed the vigorous growth in this area too.

“We are hearing from our members that minimally invasive procedures like Botox and other cosmetic injectables, medically supervised hCG weight loss, as well as laser training, microdermabrasion and chemical peels are in tremendous demand by patients,” he said.

Experts believe that the growth of such treatments will continue to be vigorous and have predicted high profits from Botox and other injectable treatments.

Experts use iPads to learn about Botox treatments

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

The International Association for Physicians in Aesthetic Medicine (IAPAM) has announced plans to release images used in its Botox training resources to clinicians using iPads.

The members-only iPad portal will give those with access a chance to zoom in on important images of the anatomy and clinical illustrations that can help them to understand how different cosmetic treatments can affect the body. The IAPAM hopes that its latest offering will help them to treat patients efficiently and give them the benefit of access to a wide range of resources.

The iPad facility is part of the IAPAM’s Aesthetic Medicine Symposium which is a programme designed to update physicians on the latest trends in cosmetic surgery, how to develop a client base, how to perform client consultations, how to add Botox along with other injectable treatments, laser hair removal and medical microdermabrasion to their offerings, and to train on all forms of aesthetic medicine.

Laser hair removal forms part of preparations for university

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

Female students at Delhi University are spending more and more money on cosmetic treatments such as laser hair removal and dermal fillers in preparation for their festival season.

Festival season sees the various colleges that make up Delhi University hosting fashion shows, classical music shows, and much more, all in a bid to outdo each other. The events that make up the festival season often involve competitions in which students can win up to RS 10,000 (£135) in cash.

With such prize money up for grabs, the girls save their money for months in preparation, and an increasing number are spending this not only on clothes and makeup, but also on procedures such as laser hair removal.

In an interview with the Hindustan Times, Dr Gaurav Dhingra, a practitioner at New Look cosmetic laser clinic, said: “We had three college girls who had come for laser hair removal just before their college fest”.

Dr Anup Dhir, cosmetic surgeon at Apollo Hospital, added: “During this season, we get youngsters asking for treatments like microdermabrasion, skin peels and even Botox lip fillers. These treatments cost around Rs 5,000 just for one session.”

Training in laser hair removal and Botox is essential for successful clinics

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

The rise in demand for non-invasive cosmetic procedures has caused a spike in the number of requests for formal training in administering Botox, laser hair removal, microdermabrasions, and other non-surgical procedures.

Recent research carried out by The International Association for Physicians in Aesthetic Medicine (IAPAM), has revealed a significant increase in the number of people registering for their Aesthetic Medicine Symposium training programme. This programme allows aesthetic practitioners to add procedures such as Botox and dermal fillers to their repertoire.

“Physicians are realising they not only need to offer Botox treatments to their patients, but also laser hair removal, IPL skin rejuvenation, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and physician-directed skin care to their healthcare businesses”, says Jeff Russell, executive director of the IAPAM.

All practitioners offering injectable cosmetic treatments should be registered with the International Healthcare Advisory Services (IHAS). As more and more clinics are seeking to maximise growth by offering non-surgical procedures, consumers are advised to only visit those that are registered by the IHAS.
