113595900Specialist skincare can help to repair minor skin damage but it can’t replace the results of cosmetic surgery, says a new study.

Younger men opt for cosmetic surgery as stigma fades

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

More men are opting for cosmetic surgery as the stigma fades and technological advances mean shorter recovery times.

“Men are figuring out what women have long known—that appearance really does matter,” says David Sarwer, an associate professor at the University of Pennsylvania.

For 59-year-old David Culpepper, one patient newly converted to the idea of cosmetic surgery, a facelift and chin implant spelt the end for his “big old saggy chin” – the words of his fiancée in the run-up to their big day.

While women still account for the majority of cosmetic surgery procedures, it seems more men are choosing to have fat removal surgery, ear reshaping surgery and anti-ageing procedures such as neck lifts. Male chest reduction surgery, which is used to correct the issue of gynaecomastia – or ‘man boobs’ – is also becoming increasingly popular among men of all ages.

According to Mr Sarwer, men choose surgical procedures and non-surgical treatments such as Botox as a way to retain their competitive edge in business. These treatments can be done quickly and require no down time, making them perfect for businesspeople.

Figures from last year, collated by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, showed that the most popular procedure among younger men and teens was male chest reduction surgery, with around 75 per cent of the 18,000 men who underwent the procedure aged between 13 and 19.

Janice Dickinson shows off breast enlargement surgery in tight dress

Monday, May 16th, 2011

Veteran model Janice Dickinson hit the headlines today thanks to a rather revealing outfit that left very little to the imagination. The 56-year-old flaunted her very thin figure and the results of breast enlargement surgery in a short, tight, gold dress, as she partied at New York’s District 36 nightclub last night.

As well as breast implants, Dickinson readily admits to having had other cosmetic surgery procedures, including a tummy tuck, face lift and neck lift, Botox and liposuction surgery.

She looked confident with her body as she posed for photographers outside the venue, and once inside danced the night away with the help of a couple of bottles of Moet champagne.

In an interview with Closer magazine last year, Dickinson said: “There’s no such thing as too much.”

“Whatever it takes to make an individual feel better, I’m all for it. In my 40s I signed up for Botox and now I have it every six months.”

Plastic surgeon treats himself to a face lift

Thursday, January 27th, 2011

A plastic surgeon has decided to treat himself to a face lift after seeing himself being interviewed on television and deciding it was time.

In an interview with AOL News, Dr Richard Ellenbogen said: “I recently appeared on TV and after watching the segment, I realized I was starting to look like William Shatner and decided, my time has come.

“If you work in the candy store, sometimes you owe yourself a piece of candy”.

The 66-year-old surgeon, who owns a cosmetic surgery clinic in Beverly Hills, USA, has chosen fellow American surgeon Dr Malcolm Paul to carry out the face lift, neck lift, and eye bag surgery.

As well as making him look younger, Dr Ellenbogen hopes the procedures will make him feel younger too, saying that he has seen how it “refreshes his patients’ lives”.

The experienced surgeon also talked about what he wants the overall result to look like, revealing that he doesn’t want to look too “stretched”, and would prefer some “fullness in the face”.

Jake Gyllenhaal rumoured to have nose job

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

Hollywood star Jake Gyllenhaal may be looking to boost his credentials as a leading man with a little help from cosmetic surgery. The Prince of Persia star is rumoured to have had a rhinoplasty to make his nose more defined.

Make Me Heal reports that the 29-year-old star may have had a nose job to narrow the tip of his nose, reducing its wide and round appearance. Having already been voted one of the world’s 50 Most Beautiful People in 2006 by People magazine, Jake is evidently making the most of his looks.

Miami-based cosmetic surgeon Dr Michael Salzhauer agreed, stating: “Jake Gyllenhaal is flaunting an improved looking nose. The tip of his nose has been defined and narrowed. Looks fantastic and really gives his face a sculpted look.”

Plastic surgery is nothing new in the Gyllenhaal family, with Jake’s older sister Maggie also being rumoured to have had a nose job as well as a possible breast lift, eye lift, liposuction on her chin and even a mini neck lift.

The 32-year-old actress may also have had non surgical treatments to hold back the signs of ageing, such as chemical peels and Botox.

Jake’s career continues to go from strength to strength, following up his appearance in Disney’s animated feature Prince of Persia: Sands of Time this summer with upcoming lead roles in the romantic comedy Nailed, opposite Jessica Biel, and drama film Love and Other Drugs, alongside Anne Hathaway.

Smoking cosmetic surgery candidates are motivated to quit

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

Cosmetic surgery is fast becoming a motivation for smokers to quit their habit.

Each year, an estimated 40 to 45 per cent of the 45 million smokers across the US attempt to quit – but only five per cent are said to succeed. However, with smoke-free living being a requirement for many popular plastic surgery procedures – from tummy tucks and breast augmentation to eyelid surgery and neck lifts - many smokers are faced with the option to either relinquish the habit, or forego the procedure.
