Dermal fillers and other non-surgical treatments set to top trends for 2012

Cosmetic industry experts have predicted that the number of people choosing to undergo non-surgical procedures will continue to grow in 2012.

Figures show that demand for surgical and non-surgical treatments is rising in America, while the International Association for Physicians in Aesthetic Medicine expects to see a continual increase in non-invasive cosmetic procedures this year, according to a report by Healthcare Global.

Survey says almost one in four Americans would have cosmetic surgery

A new poll conducted in the US has found that nearly a quarter of all Americans would have cosmetic surgery if cost wasn’t an option.

The survey, conducted by an American online deals site found that women were more likely to have a cosmetic procedure carried out than men – 28 per cent compared to 18 per cent of men. For some however, cost is simply not a consideration. Out of the 2,500 people surveyed, 15 per cent of people said they would consider surgery regardless.

In an interview with InStyle magazine, the 42-year-old, who gained worldwide fame after appearing in the hit US sitcom Friends, refused to deny having dermal filler injections.

Australia sees rise in male cosmetic surgery figures

An increasing number of Australian men are undergoing plastic surgery procedures in an attempt to maintain youthful looks, according to one expert in the sector.

Dr John Flynn, of the Australasian College of Cosmetic Surgery, has said there has been a steady rise over a number of years in the number of men wanting surgical and non-surgical treatments. According to a report by the country’s Herald Sun newspaper, he suggested this is likely to be down to a change in people’s attitudes towards the cosmetic industry, along with the fact that procedures are now more affordable.

Thomas Lee, a surgeon at the Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Centre in Westerville, Ohio, is one such professional.

“It’s an electronic way of extending the conversation,” says Mr Lee.

“It creates a vibrant sense of community and a wonderful back-and-forth dialogue.”

X Factor’s Kitty Brucknell had treatment for lines and wrinkles

X Factor finalist Kitty Brucknell has admitted to using dermal fillers to smooth out the appearance of her forehead.

The 26-year-old, who began having Botox injections earlier this year, told the Daily Mail she was worried her frown lines would turn into permanent wrinkles. The singer said she opted to have the anti-aging treatment after watching footage of herself on stage and realising that she was frowning.

Gwyneth Paltrow among celebrities looking to get tough on kninkles, says report

The newspaper has published pictures of 15 models and actresses it claims are suffering from excessive lines around their knees. Following on from pictures of Gwyneth Paltrow holidaying in a pair of shorts in Venice over the weekend, it has pulled together a list of celebs including Jennifer Aniston, Madonna and Helen Mirren, all of whom it’s claimed are sufferers.
