Bringing out the best with burlesque

Burlesque shows are becoming more and more popular in the UK these days as ladies and men enjoy an evening of entertainment that celebrates the body. Normally these shows have a strip tease element these days, but a lot of the time they mix in a lot of comedy and entertaining short storylines or skits to make sure they appeal to lots of people. I’ve been to a few burlesque shows myself over the last few years and enjoyed them, but the thing that’s really interesting me about burlesque these days is the way that some people are really taking parts of its philosophy on board. BBC Four TV show details history of cosmetic surgery

With the advancements made in cosmetic surgery in recent years, many believe the industry to be a modern phenomenon. However, BBC Four will air a television programme tonight at 9pm that confirms otherwise.

Blood and Guts – Fixing Faces is part of BBC Four’s documentary series exploring the history and evolution of plastic surgery. The programme – presented by medically trained Michael Mosely – investigates the founding of the practice some 400 years ago, as well as some of the earliest procedures carried out, including nose surgery and facelifts. BAAPS says cosmetic surgery could be ‘beneficial’ for young people

Selected cosmetic procedures could have “hugely beneficial effects” on younger people, according to a new survey by the British Association of Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery (BAAPS).

The research showed that over a quarter of BAAPS surgeons had been approached by up to 10 patients aged below 20 years about corrective plastic surgery. (more…)
