Plastic surgery causes significant decrease in negative body image

Self-esteem can be boosted for long periods of time by cosmetic surgery procedures.

This is the view of Professor Laurence Kirwan who was involved in research that found patients experienced a significant decrease in ‘negative body image’ following surgery.

The study, carried out by researchers at The Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation (ASERF), found that this feeling of increased self-confidence lasted for at least one year after the surgical procedure.

Cost and ‘before and after’ pictures most important factors for tummy tuck patients

The cost and a good selection of ‘before and after’ photos are the top two things potential tummy tuck patients consider when looking for the best surgeon or cosmetic surgery clinic.

This is according to American clinic comparison website LocateADoc.com, which has also noted that the number of people opting for abdominoplasty – the medical name for a tummy tuck – has risen by 6 per cent year-on-year for 2011.

Mila Kunis says she might consider cosmetic surgery in ten years

Hollywood actress Mila Kunis has revealed that she plans to stay away from cosmetic surgery for the time being, but she may well consider it in 10 years’ time.

In an interview with women’s magazine Harper’s Bazaar, the 28-year-old said that only medical necessity would change her mind at this stage, but that she was not anti-cosmetic surgery.

Australians spend more than Americans on plastic surgery

Research has shown that those living down under are coming out on top when it comes to the number of people having surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures.

Australians have overtaken Americans in having such treatments as Botox, dermal fillers and surgery such as breast enlargement, liposuction and facelifts.

Face scanner to predict results of cosmetic surgery

Scientists in the UK have developed scanning technology that could help cosmetic surgeons to predict the results of plastic surgery.

The BBC reported that researchers at Imperial College London and the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead have developed 3D technology to help surgeons and patients to understand what the results of certain plastic and cosmetic surgery procedures could be.

Successes of mini-facelift surgery to be presented at California conference

An invitation to speak at the 91st annual meeting of the American Association of Plastic Surgeons has been extended to two industry-leading figures, on the back of research into facelift surgery techniques.

Doctors Lawrence Gray and R Brannon Claytor will be asked to present the findings of their research paper entitled “MACS Facelift with FATS” at the meeting, to be held in San Francisco next month.

Beauty salons could face criminal charges for performing cosmetic procedures

Beauty salon owners in Malaysia have been warned that they may face criminal charges if they administer Botox, or any other cosmetic treatments.

Health Minister for the country, Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, made the announcement at the Beauty Professional 2012 exhibition held in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Tom Cruise relies on youthful looks to succeed in Hollywood

An avid reader of Today.com has commented that Tom Cruise has procedures in order to continue being a successful actor.

The comment came on the back of a very young looking Tom Cruise appearing at this year’s Oscars, the 84th Awards Ceremony which took place in Hollywood on Sunday night.

In an industry where looks mean everything and competition is fierce, the reader believes Cruise is simply protecting the source of his income by choosing to have surgical and non-surgical procedures.

‘Face Time facelift’ highlights up-to-date attitude to cosmetic surgery

A cosmetic surgeon in America has begun to perform so-called ‘Face Time face lifts’ for patients.

The procedure was said to be inspired by complaints from patients who said they didn’t like the way they looked when using Apple’s video calling function, Face Time.

Dr Robert Sigal, whose cosmetic surgery clinic is in Virginia, said he came up with the idea after his wife bought herself an iPhone 4 mobile phone.

Oscar win for plastic surgery

Film documentary Saving Face last night won an Oscar for Best Documentary Short at the 84th Annual Academy Awards.

The film, co-directed by Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, highlights the plight of women in Pakistan who face the threat of being burned with acid if they jilt a man’s advances or get into an argument with a man.

In her acceptance speech, Sharmeen said: “All the women in Pakistan working for change, don’t give up on your dreams, this is for you.”
