It turns out that there may be some truth in the idea that your sleeping habits impact the way your face ages. Following a comment from a patient that she had to have more dermal fillers on one side of her face – the side that she tends to sleep on – one of our non-surgical training managers gave a run down on why:

Many creams and gels claim to reduce the appearance of stretch marks or prevent them occurring altogether, but few can provide clinical evidence for such claims and experts can therefore be wary of promoting them.
Mrs Beckham’s openness about her pregnancy stretch marks has sparked cosmetic surgery experts to speak out about available treatments. Laser techniques are high on the list of cosmetic treatments that are proven to work for a high percentage of patients, but consumers considering this course of action are advised to be aware that only a few are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Experts Dr Aamer and Lesley Reynolds Khan advise those who are worried about suffering from stretch marks recommend a diet that is rich in protein and mineral zinc – which can be found in brown rice, shellfish and yoghurt. It is also recommended to stay well hydrated at all times.

This week’s news that ‘cosmetic surgery couples’ are on the rise has got me thinking: I wonder how many celebrities have encouraged their partners to undergo a procedure to improve their appearance? One obvious example springs to mind immediately – David and Victoria Beckham of course! The stylish pair have always hit the headlines with their “his ‘n’ her” ventures, their new perfume being just one example. And although neither of them have ever officially confirmed having had cosmetic surgery done, it’s widely speculated that not only has Posh had a breast enlargement, but both her and David are likely regular users of Botox. Celebrity plastic surgery news site, Make Me Heal, suggests that Victoria’s drastic haircut may have been timed to coincide with a rhinoplasty, which could have made her nose look smaller and less noticeable.
The ex-Spice Girl is known to have had cosmetic surgery before, most noticeably a breast enlargement and a previous rhinoplasty that gave her nose its upturned appearance. (more…)
