Botox could relieve diabetic foot pain

A new study has revealed that Botox injections could also have a beneficial effect on people with type 2 diabetes who suffer from chronic foot pain.

The research, conducted by scientists at Taipei Medical University in Taiwan, has been published in the medical journal Neurology and reveals a dramatic drop in foot pain levels for diabetic patients who received the wrinkle busting jabs. (more…)

As Allergan-made Botox continues to gain in popularity, competitors in the non-surgical cosmetic treatment market are stepping up their efforts to offer a suitable alternative.

One biopharmaceutical company that specialises in aesthetic medicine, Revance Therapeutics, has just secured $8 million worth of financing in order to help with the clinical development of ST0001, a topical form botulinum toxin type A that could be a rival to the wrinkle-relaxing injection. Here’s a searching question for all you beauty queens: how old were you when you first started wearing make-up? I begged my mum to buy me some eyeliner when I was eight but it wasn’t until I was 14 that she let me dabble with her make-up. She let me buy my own soon enough after that- sorry for ruining all your favourite lipsticks mum. I can understand why she tried to hold me off now; after all, she just wanted me to enjoy being a kid for as long as possible. But, as I continued to long for that first splash of black (or purple!) on my lids or that subtle hint of rouge on my cheekbones, the mesmerising thought of wearing make-up and “being grown-up” never left my mind. An increasing number of young people are experimenting with Botox as a way to halt the signs of aging, the Daily Mail reports.

In America, the trend has given rise to the moniker “Botox babies” and it has been reported that people as young as 15 have undergone the non surgical treatment to stop wrinkles before they have even begun to form. (more…)

Has US vice-presidential candidate Joe Biden had Botox?

Political analysts and cosmetic surgeons in the US are at loggerheads in a battle over whether or not vice-presidential candidate Joe Biden has had Botox injections.

Senator Biden, who is running for the White House as Barack Obama’s deputy on the Democratic ticket, is suspected to have received the wrinkle relaxing injections as his brow – now dubbed the “Biden Brow” – appears much smoother than at the start of his campaign. (more…)

Surgeons issue advice against Botox bingeing

Advice has been issued to patients who are bingeing on Botox injections and demanding the treatment before they need a top-up.

The effects of the wrinkle relaxing injections usually wear off within three to six months. However, surgeons at the Harley Medical Group have found that many patients are returning for their regular replenishment before it is necessary, and have turned these patients away as a result. (more…)

If there’s one piece of small talk that gets on my nerves, it’s when people ask me to give them a smile. I mean, I like to think of myself as a pretty up-beat person and I think that’s reflected in my general appearance. But you can’t smile all the time can you?
