medical microdermabrasion - the treatment
Prior to medical microdermabrasion Treatment
Prior to your treatment you will have a consultation where all your questions are answered and you are assessed for your suitability to proceed. The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes, depending upon the skin condition and the area to be treated.
The results are instant, and unlike chemical peels, medical microdermabrasion usually does not require a preparation prior to treatment.
One of the many advantages of medical microdermabrasion is that it can be used on all skin types, young and old, male and female with no recovery time needed post treatment.
Following medical microdermabrasion treatment
Immediately post treatment your skin will be very receptive to nutrients, so as part of your treatment our fully qualified Cosmetic Nurse Counsellor will apply the medical skin care products. These include a potent anti-oxidant to repair free radical damage followed by a product which stimulates elastin and collagen production. The treatment will finish with an SPF 25 moisturiser to hydrate your skin and provide sun protection. Your Nurse will discuss the best care regime for you to follow at home, enhancing the results of your procedure.
Many patients will notice an improvement in the texture of their skin immediately after the first treatment. The long term benefits of multiple procedures are accumulative and can be remarkable. There is very little if any recovery time (most patients can return to work straight after treatment). The patient can have possible redness (24 hrs) and should avoid heat treatments, direct sun exposure, sauna and vigorous exercise for the first post treatment day. This treatment is not suitable for patients who have visible broken blood vessels. The benefits are that the vacuum and crystal controls are very flexible which allow tailor made treatments which are non invasive and pain free.
How long will microdermabrasion treatments last?
You will need a course of 6 treatments spaced approximately 14 days apart and results will be seen immediately with an improvement of your skin texture. The average time for a complete cell regeneration and upward migration (cell turnover) is 4-5 weeks. At the end of that time, the patient should see significant results. It makes sense that the patient will want to continue with this improvement so depending upon skin condition a maintenance course will be discussed with you by your Nurse along with other treatments that may enhance this versatile procedure.
