What really happens during Botox and lip filler injections? Company Magazine went behind clinic doors at The Harley Medical Group to find out
Before
Ruth Crofford, 30, is about to have ten Botox (link to botox page) injections in her forehead and between her brows, top prevent fine lines and wrinkles. Cost: £200
Step 1
The doctor, Dr Ian Anderson, fills a syringe with Botox. He then asks Ruth to knit her brows together, and pinches the muscle with his fingers.
Step2
Dr Anderson asks Ruth to relax her brows, and with his fingers still in place, injects the muscle with Botox, keeping the needle pointing away from her eyes, to avoid the risk of droopy eyelids.
Step 3
Afterwards, he holds a swab over the injection site for a few seconds, to stem bleeding and prevent bruising. He then repeats the whole process on the rest of Ruth's forehead, giving her ten injections in total.
After
Ruth immediately after Botox. It could be several days before the full results are visible.
Before
Amber Walkowsky, 28, is going to have her upper lip injected with a filler, Restylane, to make it look fuller. Cost: £150 (for 0.5ml)
Step 1
A non-surgical nurse, Fionnula Gielty, rubs anaesthetic cream on Amber's lips to take away the sting of the injection. It takes 20 minutes to work.
Step 2
20 minutes later, Fionnula wipes off the cream. She takes a syringe of Restylane, and injects it into and along the vermillion border (lip line) of Amber's top lip. As she withdraws the syringe, she pushes the plunger, releasing a line of gel.
Step 3
As she works, Fionnula feels with her finger to check the filler is even and uses a damp gauze to stem any bleeding. She injects each side of Amber's lip twice.
After
Amber immediately afterwards. It will take up to four days for her lip to soften and the filler to settle.
