If you still want surgery, follow these tips from Mel Braham, chairman of the Harley Medical Group

Make sure you have your first consultation with either a registered Nurse trained in cosmetic surgery counselling or with the Plastic Surgeon who will operate on you. A sales person may be motivated by commission, not your best interest.

Your operating surgeon should be registered on the GMC Specialist Register as a plastic surgeon. Every surgeon has to keep a logbook of their entire operating record - ask to see it.

Do not consider a clinic that is not inspected regularly by the Healthcare Commission.

Make sure you've received all your pre and postoperative instructions in writing well before you have your op. Check that your clinic provides a 24-hour professional advice number for you to use after your operation.
