Lazy girl beauty: the multi tasking products that will save you time and effort
Sometimes it can feel like a full face of make-up and clear, healthy skin are mutually exclusive. But why should this be the case?
With our hectic modern lives we need products that can multi-task: a concealer that’s also working to clear up a blemish; a moisturiser that’s also an SPF.
Because, unless you’re following in the footsteps of Kendall and Gigi and it’s actually your job to look beautiful, no one has hours to spend on a lengthy beauty regime. For most of us, especially first thing in the morning, our cosmetics need to go on as quickly and easily as possible.
Any product that promises to multi-task catches our attention. Here’s a guide to some of our hard-working, time-saving favourites.
All hail the BB Cream! This wonder product is the God Father of multi-tasking make-up and deserves a place in every woman’s cosmetics bag. BB stands for Blemish Balm or Blemish Base, which might sound like a pimple fighting cover-up, but the BB cream does so much more than that!
The creams were developed by Dermatologists for patients who had received Laser Skin Treatments; so they’re designed to nourish and protect the skin. A good BB cream will contain broad spectrum UV protection, anti-ageing, skin brightening and blemish fighting ingredients. Not to mention the coverage and dewy glow they deliver as a make-up base.
BB creams are close to a make-up miracle. When you’re choosing a product look out for one that’s packed with goodies for your skin. A few of our favourites are the Lira BB Cream, Kiehl’s Actively Correcting and Beautifying BB Cream (£24.50) and the Avene Hydrance Optimale Skin Tone Perfector Light (£16.50).
The Lira BB Cream is designed for everyday use. It perfects, protects, hydrates and heals all skin types, whether you suffer from sensitive, Acne prone or pigmented skin. It’s also great for Anti-Ageing; infused with antioxidants, this product helps minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and stimulates cell rejuvenation.
Kiehl’s BB cream is great if you struggle with Acne and blemishes and it’s formulated with Vitamin C, which improves the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
Avene’s Hydrating Skin Tone Perfector contains both transparent mineral pigments and coloured pigments which reflect light and give you an even skin tone, minimising any imperfections.
In Shower False Tan
Protecting your skin from UV rays is a top priority when it comes to skin care, but that doesn’t mean you have to forgo a sun-kissed glow. Fake tan is a safe way to add a little colour to your complexion and with St Tropez’ new In-Shower Gradual Tan it’s never been quicker or easier to apply.
Just shower as usual, apply an even layer of the product to wet skin, wait three minutes and rinse. Simple! Gone are the days of bad smelling, greeny/brown tans that take hours to develop and force you to hide indoors looking a swamp monster while they do. This product is genius.
Acne Fighting Cover-Up
Make-up and blemish prone skin can leave you trapped in a vicious circle. One of the best things you can do for Acne is to keep your skin clean and free from excessive grime and oil that can lead to clogged pores, but the last thing you want when you have an angry, red pimple is to go make-up free – so what’s a girl to do?!
Blemish fighting make-up is the perfect compromise. We recommend bareMinerals Blemish Remedy Foundation, Youngblood’s Ultimate Concealer, and Clinique Acne Solutions Clearing Concealer.
bareMinerals is renowned for its kind to skin products, the mineral base of their foundations is designed to let your skin breath. While this blemish targeted product is also enriched with tea tree oil and aspen bark for clearer skin.
Packed with vitamins to brighten and soothe problematic skin, Youngblood’s Ultimate Concealer tackles unwanted blemishes, discolouration and dark circles all at once.
Clinique haven’t shied away from the active ingredients in their concealer. The Acne solutions product contains Salicylic Acid, one of the most potent ingredients when it comes to fighting blemishes.
If your bathroom cabinets look anything like ours they’ll be a plethora of face creams, body moisturisers, serums, oils, masks (some for hair, some for face) and gels in there. Imagine if one product could replace all of these!
All-in-one moisturisers, suitable for hair, face and body are the perfect fit for a low-maintenance beauty regime. We like Davines Moisturising Balm Face/ Hair/ Body and Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Miracle Dry Oil.
Davines’ moisturiser has a thick creamy texture and a floral scent. You apply it before getting in the shower, wait a few minutes while it works its magic and then shower as usual. It even works as make-up remover if you’re feeling really lazy.
Garnier’s oil is a delicious smelling blend of olive, avocado and almond oils. Spritz onto wet skin after showering to lock in moisture and nourish skin and hair.
Enrich Eye Make-Up
If you think about it, we put our lashes through a lot in the name of beauty: caked in mascara, layered with eye-liner, assaulted with eyelash glue and falsies. But we do very little to look after them.
Make-up manufacturers are catching on however and starting to pack their products with lash-loving nutrients. Three products we’re excited about are Eyeko’s Black Magic Liquid Eyeliner, Youngblood’s Mineral Lash Prime, and Rimmel London’s Volume Colourist Mascara.
Eyeko’s eye-liner contains a formula they’re calling ‘WIDELASH’. It’s a tripeptide blend that encourages your eye-lashes to grow longer.
For visibly thicker and fuller lashes (after just one coat of mascara), we recommend Youngblood’s Mineral Lash Prime. It contains nut oils and protein for enviably soft lashes. Apply under mascara.
As you may have guessed from its name, Rimmel’s new mascara contains semi-permanent eye-lash tint, so every time you wear the product you’ll be helping to darken your lashes too – so you can skip a trip to the salon.
Whether you’re trying to save time or just looking for the hardest working cosmetics on the market, a multi-tasking product is always a smart beauty investment.
