What type of skin is affected by wintry weather?

Winter weather can affect all skin types but can be especially harsh on those with sensitive complexions.


My skin feels drier than usual – why is this?

Skin can become dry in winter, due to a combination of cold temperatures, blustery winds, and our central-heated homes and offices. All of these factors mean that there is less moisture present in the air, causing skin to feel dry and tight. Those with sensitive skin may also notice itching and flakiness making it important to keep skin hydrated. We recommend using bath oil and applying plenty of moisturiser on your face and body to stop skin from drying out.


My usual Skin Care routine isn’t having the same effect – what should I do?

The change in season is a great time to reassess your Skin Care regime. Bear in mind that winter weather is very drying so you may prefer to switch up your usual products to account for this. Opt for cleansing creams or oil rather than your usual cleansing gel. If you use toner, switch to a mild and gentler formula to avoid stripping your skin of its natural oils. How often should I apply moisturiser during winter?

If you suffer from dry and sensitive skin, there is no limit to the amount of times you can moisturise each day. The more moisture you can get into your skin, the less likely it is to become sore, irritated and itchy.


I apply moisturiser frequently but it doesn’t have the desired effect – how can I make it work?

Before your moisturiser can penetrate your skin and work its magic, it needs to be able to penetrate the upper layers of your skin. Winter can cause a build-up of dead skin cells which will block your pores and prevent any moisturiser from doing its job. Be sure to exfoliate regularly to prevent dull looking skin. Those with dry skin should be exfoliating three times a week, while oily and combination types require twice weekly exfoliation. Remember to apply plenty of moisturiser afterwards to keep skin hydrated and radiant-looking.


Should I change my day cream in the winter?

Check the ingredients on your day cream. For it to be effective during the winter, make sure it contains antioxidants and SPF – that’s right, you’ll need to protect your skin from the sun’s UV rays during the winter as well as the summer. You should apply sunscreen all year round for maximum protection.
