Manchester breast implants overview

Medically reviewed May 2023, by Mr Sankar - Chief Medical Officer for The Harley Medical Group. Next review due May 2024.

Breast augmentation, also called breast enlargement or breast enhancement, is a commonly performed cosmetic surgery in the UK. This procedure entails placing implants beneath the breast tissue to enhance the size or reshape the breasts. Women who are good candidates for breast augmentation include those with small or asymmetrical breasts or those who have lost breast volume and size due to weight loss, pregnancy, or breastfeeding.

Patient testimonial

From start to finish I was made to feel so welcome and at ease, it was like meeting with friends to discuss my surgery!

All of my worries and concerns were listened to and I was always invited back to have a face to face chat, which made me feel ever so valued and like they truly cared.

My surgeon was fantastic, he again made me feel really comfortable, and advised me on what would be best for me as an individual. I can’t thank the team enough for being so supportive and friendly! I am so happy with my results and am glad I chose Harley Medical Group.

are breast implants safe?

Is breast enlargement right for me?

If you are conscious about the size, symmetry or position of your breasts, then breast enlargement could be for you. Breast enlargement or breast augmentation surgery is a personal decision that should be made after careful consideration and discussion with a qualified medical professional. It is important to have a realistic expectation of the results and to understand the potential risks and complications associated with the procedure. A qualified plastic surgeon will be able to assess your individual situation and discuss the most suitable options for you. They will also be able to advise on whether breast enlargement surgery is a suitable option based on your medical history, breast size and shape, and your desired outcome.

The procedure for breast implants in Manchester

During a breast augmentation procedure, your surgeon will create an incision in your skin that is typically 3 to 5cm long. The incision is usually made in the crease beneath your breast, but it can also be made in your underarm or around your areola (nipple). A pocket is then created to place the breast implant, which can be positioned between the breast tissue and chest muscle or behind the chest wall muscle.

At The Harley Medical Group, our surgeons use the Keller Funnel™ to insert the implant into the created pocket, without touching it with their gloved fingers, unlike traditional methods. After placing the implant, the incision will be stitched, which may involve dissolvable stitches. The treated area will then be dressed, and drainage tubes, if any, will be removed before you are discharged.

Manchester breast augmentation recovery & aftercare

After a breast augmentation surgery, the recovery period typically lasts for a few weeks. Patients may experience swelling, bruising, and soreness around the breast area, and are advised to avoid strenuous activities for the first few weeks. It is important to follow the post-operative instructions provided by your surgeon to ensure a smooth and safe recovery. You may be advised to wear a surgical bra or compression garment for support and to help reduce swelling. Regular follow-up appointments with your surgeon will be scheduled to monitor your healing progress and to remove any stitches that may have been placed during surgery. It is important to be patient during the recovery process and allow enough time for your body to heal properly. It is also important to maintain a healthy lifestyle and avoid smoking, as it can negatively affect the healing process.

  • Hospital accommodation and post-operative care
  • All fees are transparent and include all necessary expenses.

How to find our Manchester clinic

Frequently Asked Questions - breast enlargement Manchester

At The Harley Medical Group, in order to qualify for this procedure, you must be at least 18 years old, have fully developed and be in good overall health. Your Cosmetic Surgeon will also have access to your medical history, allowing them to advise you on whether the procedure is appropriate for you. Prior to being considered for surgery, all patients undergo a thorough assessment.

Regrettably, we are unable to provide any surgical treatment to individuals who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding. Nevertheless, we encourage you to contact us six months after childbirth or breastfeeding to speak with our approachable advisors about your options moving forward.

MENTOR® breast implants, which come with a 10-year warranty (including free replacement in case of capsular contracture), are used by The Harley Medical Group. MENTOR® is a Johnson & Johnson® brand that has been producing high-quality breast implants for over 20 years. They have been approved by the US FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and exceed CE and MHRA testing standards, with over 20 years of clinical data. They are also the UK's leading provider of implants for breast reconstruction patients. It should be noted that breast implants usually last between 10 and 12 years, but this may be longer, and they will eventually need to be replaced.

Selecting the appropriate breast implant size is a significant aspect, and this will be covered during your surgical consultations. The sizes that are suitable for you will be based on various factors, such as your existing breast size, body structure, and the quantity of excess fat or skin in the chest region. Your proficient Consultant will talk about this with you to guarantee that your breast augmentation is in line with your desired outcome.

Sleeping on your side is not recommended for 6 weeks after surgery, as it can interfere with the position of your breast implants. During your recovery period, it's best to avoid lifting your arms too high, and sleeping on your side can encourage this movement. We suggest that you sleep on your back with proper support, such as multiple pillows or a pregnancy pillow, to elevate your upper body. This position can help to reduce swelling and make it easier for you to get out of bed.

Results from your Blepharoplasty surgery should be long-lasting for around 10 years however, this will depend on several factors such as the ageing process, medical conditions and your genetics.
