Sun Damage and Sun Spots

As we get older, our skin, particularly on the face, starts to show signs of ageing and this can be difficult to come to terms with when we’re used to having radiant, youthful-looking skin. The most common characteristics of ageing skin are lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, sun spots and sun damage, all of which can be treated effectively and painlessly.

As the name suggests sun spots and sun damage are caused by overexposure to the sun’s harmful UV rays without adequate protection. The level of sun damage depends on how well you’ve looked after your skin over the years, with the most damaged taking on a dark, dry and leathery look. Other people will simply see lots of fine lines and wrinkles or darker patches of skin where the body is producing too much melanin.

The only ways to prevent sun damage or reduce the effects are to stay out of the sun, particularly during the hottest part of the day (midday to 3pm), avoid sunbeds and wear sun cream or moisturisers with SPF15 (sun protection factor) or higher, every day.

At The Harley Medical Group we offer some of the most effective treatments to rejuvenate tired skin with signs of sun damage; including medical microdermabrasion (MMD), PPx laser, line and wrinkle injections, dermal fillers and skin peels. PPx is one of the latest developments in the world of light-based technology and is a highly effective treatment for the rejuvenation of damaged skin. It can also be used to reduce the appearance of unsightly veins and acne scars on the body as well as the face.

PPx is virtually painless and it uses around half the power of other IPL machines, meaning the skin will be left looking healthier, brighter and more youthful after just one treatment, with minimal redness and no downtime. In recent clinical studies patients reported seeing a visible improvement within 24 and 48 hours of the treatment.
