Finding the right skin care products care feel like a mine-field! Faced with a baffling array of creams, cleansers, toners, scrubs and serums - all promising you a healthy, glowing complexion - it’s amazing we ever manage to make a decision.
But there are a few essentials every skin care routine needs:
To avoid clogged pores and imperfections a good cleanser is an essential part of your skin care regime. Cleansing your skin at night and first thing in the morning will wash away any remaining make-up or impurities that can lead to blemishes. The style of product you choose – foaming, oil, micellar etc – is a matter of personal preference, so choose a product that suits your skin type and use it religiously!
To keep your skin looking bright and dewy it’s important to exfoliate regularly to remove any dead skin cells which can dull your complexion. There are two types of exfoliator: mechanical and chemical. Mechanical exfoliation, such as Microdermabrasion, buffs away dead skin cells and chemical exfoliation, like Skin Peels, dissolves the dead cells. If your skin is sensitive or delicate opt for the chemical exfoliation which is less abrasive.
3) Eye cream
The skin around your eyes will benefit from a little extra pampering as it is thinner and more delicate than the rest of the face. For an eye cream than helps prevent wrinkles choose a product that contains anti-oxidants, or, if you’re looking for a cream that helps minimise the appearance of lines and wrinkles, select ingredients like retinol and hyaluronic acid.
Serums have more active ingredients than moisturisers so they’ll work harder to improve the appearance of your complexion. Apply them morning and evening underneath your regular moisturiser for added skin boosting benefits.
Dry skin can look thin, dull and wrinkled so it’s important to wear a hydrating moisturiser every day. As well as keeping your skin looking and feeling lovely, moisturiser helps create a smooth base for make-up and protects your complexion against external irritants – which is especially important after an exfoliation.
Even on a dull day UV rays can penetrate the clouds and damage skin. SPF is your secret weapon to prevent some of the most obvious signs of ageing, so it should be applied daily. Lots of moisturisers now contain SPF, so look out for this when choosing your products.
