A lifetime of cosmetic surgery: Most popular procedures for each age group
27 July 2011Teenagers opt for nose and ear reshaping surgery, young adults choose breast augmentation, those entering middle age pick liposuction and eye bag removal is most popular with those in old age. These are the findings of two sets of statistics – one from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), and the other from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). The Orange County Register pulled together the statistics, which focus entirely on female patients, and published ‘Plastic Surgery From Teenage to Old’ today.According to the research, teenagers who choose to have cosmetic surgery often go for nose reshaping surgery or ear reshaping surgery, including having the ears pinned back. ASPS found that nose jobs are top of the list for under-18s, while ASAPS found that ear reshaping surgery came out on top. Young female adults, aged between 19 and 34, pick breast augmentation over any other type of surgery, with an estimated 166,000 boob jobs carried out in America last year. As women advance into middle age, figures suggest that they refocus and opt for body contouring surgery such as liposuction. Plastic surgeon Dr John Di Saia said: “Slowing metabolism and more involved work schedules equal increased trouble 'holding back the fat’. Liposuction is easy and can help with that.” In old age women seem to focus on the face and surgery to remove eye bags is the most popular in those aged 40 and over, while the face lift is number one for the over-50s.
