First Magazine'Aesthera PPx'WHAT IS IT? A new light treatment to banish age spots and thread veins. HOW NEW IS IT? Aesthera has just hit UK salons from the US, where it's had a cult following for about a year. WHAT DOES IT DO? It's great for getting rid of pigmentation marks on your face, chest and hands. Treatment is quick - about seven minutes - and, unlike many laser alternatives, completely painless. The treatment tip sucks up your skin, stretching it slightly to bring the unwanted pigment closer to the surface, and then zaps the blemish with blue and green light to break it down. Perfect if you've overdone the sunbathing. DETAILS: Available from Harley Medical clinics nationwide. Treatment costs £350, or £1,450 for the recommended course of five. What does our expert think? "Aesthera can certainly improve pigmentation, thread veins and fine lines," says Dr Lowe. "It's much less painful than other pulsed-light treatments, such as Lumenis or Quantum, because the sucking action is so much gentler. It can only improve the skin surface though, so it won't help with sagging or deep wrinkles."
