Arm Lift procedures on the up
10 July 2014Celebrating a significant weight loss can showcase some extremely impressive results – from a smaller waistline, slimmer thighs right through to…flabby arms? While exercising can certainly boost your confidence, dealing with excess skin often results in low self-esteem – with bingo wings proving to be one of the top complaints following a dramatic weight loss. Thankfully, there’s a way to remedy this concern: the increasingly popular Cosmetic Surgicary procedure, Arm Lift - which is exactly the approach Vicky Campadanico went for, after undergoing Gastric Sleeve surgery. Despite having lost an incredible amount of weight, she was left with a reminder – in the form of her flabby arms. “Even after I lost the weight, I had bat wings. They were disgusting, really,” said Campadanico. A growing trend within the Cosmetic Surgery field, it’s a trend that Dr Adam Rubenstein said is becoming more prevalent. “When you think about how many people are losing weight now through lap bands, gastric sleeves, gastric bypass and just exercise and diet, people are really thinking about their weight and dropping pounds. Well that comes along with baggage,” explained Dr Rubenstein. According to US statistics published by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, more than 15,000 women went under the knife in 2012 to improve the appearance of their arms. “For most patients it’s a very worthwhile trade-off to have that thin scar, compared to the hanging skin, and they feel much more comfortable. They will trade that scar for what they had before any day,” added Dr Rubenstein. What are your thoughts on Arm Lift procedures?
