Breast Augmentation versus Breast Lift
21 January 2016
Breast surgery is one of the most commonly undertaken Cosmetic Surgical procedures but patients have different motivations depending on the procedure in question. Many people do not realise that there is a marked difference between a Breast Augmentation and a Breast Lift – so here’s what you need to know to ensure you’re choosing the right procedure for your needs.
Breast Augmentation focuses on increasing the size and the fullness of the patient’s breasts by inserting implants. During the procedure, the Cosmetic Surgeon will make an incision in each breast before lifting the tissue and inserting the implant.
So who is an ideal candidate for Breast Augmentation? This procedure is ideal for women looking for increased fullness of the breasts. Women undergoing Breast Augmentation do so to gain a more balanced figure that is in proportion. It can also help to increase self-confidence in patients who were unhappy with the size of their breasts prior to surgery.
A Breast Lift on the other hand aims to rejuvenate a woman’s breasts and restore youth. Unlike Breast Augmentation, it does not increase breast size. Also known as Mastopexy, this procedure focuses on the removal of excess skin to lift and tighten the patient’s breasts.
Typical Breast Lift candidates undergo this procedure to correct sagging due to age, pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight gain or loss.
If you’re still unsure which procedure is right for you but you are interested in finding out more, book a consultation with a Cosmetic Surgery expert who will be able to advise you on the best course of action to take for your needs.
