New studies have found that breast surgery is still the most popular cosmetic treatment for women across the globe, with ever more people turning to surgery to achieve greater proportion in their bodies as well as boost their self confidence. There are many types of breast surgery available, depending on the needs of the individual. As reported by i-Newswire, the most popular breast surgery is still breast augmentation, chosen by women looking to increase the size of their busts. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) revealed that more than 311,957 women opted for breast enlargements last year in the United States alone. There are a number of reasons why women choose to undergo breast augmentation surgery, including balancing out a shapely figure by adding extra volume on top, or restoring lost volume that may have followed pregnancy or breastfeeding. It's not only breast enlargement that is enjoying success in the cosmetic surgery industry, despite the recession, with increasing numbers of women seeking out breast reduction surgery too. Breast reduction can re-contour and reshape certain areas of the breast, including reducing the size of the areola, and can also lift breasts that are hanging due to age or weight fluctuation. However, many women looking to restore firmness to hanging breasts without necessarily reducing their size opt instead for breast uplift surgery. Also called mastopexy, this surgery can restore the shape of women's breasts as well as self-esteem.
