'Bro-tox' procedures winning fans across America

16 March 2012

An increasing number of men in America are choosing to have injectable fillers in a bid to maintain a youthful appearance. The popularity of Botox injections for men – dubbed by some cosmetic surgeons as "bro-tox" – has soared in recent years. Figures from the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS) show more than 300,000 men were injected with the filler last year, representing a 10 per cent increase on 2010.Industry experts say the use of Botox and similar fillers by men is no longer a trend, but the norm. According to a report by news website Allmediany, men have become far more comfortable with the idea of undergoing cosmetic procedures, and are not as "scared" to be seen using products such as Botox to improve their looks. Miami-based plastic surgeon Dr Constantino Mendieta said the reasons more men were choosing to have Botox injections were related to both business and pleasure. He said: "They'll inject the Botox to soften up their look to just give a more approachable appearance, so in business it helps. It helps them too in the bars when they're trying to meet girls."
