21 June 2011Couples’ cosmetic surgery is the latest trend in the industry according to plastic surgeons in America. More couples than ever before are choosing to have surgical and non-surgical procedures together in a bid to look their best as they grow old side by side. “People are living longer, working longer and want to look as good as they feel," says Dr Leo R. McCafferty, president of the Allegheny County Medical Society and vice-president of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.“Most people think 'This is an investment in myself. I'm healthy, I take care of myself, I exercise. I don't want to look tired and old because I don't feel tired and old,'” he says. The Gavulas, both 50, are one such couple - Marsha Gavula, 50, has had Botox injections, dermal fillers and microdermabrasion in the past, while Mike Gavula is new to it all. But both have recently been attending 30-minute sessions at a cosmetic surgery clinic to undergo minimally-invasive treatments for lines and wrinkles. “My face just seemed to be getting older than my body,” said Mr Gavula, a civil engineer. “There's only so much you can do yourself,” he added. “Getting older is a good thing, but I don't want to look old. I still want to keep a youthful look for as long as I can,” said Mrs Gavula.
