A recent postcode survey discovered that Newcastle tops the polls in the UK as the city where more people have cosmetic surgery than anywhere else.

The survey, carried out by the Harley Medical Group, uncovered the top 10 areas for cosmetic surgery utilising UK postcodes and found that Newcastle residents had the highest number of cosmetic procedures. Capital city London came in at second place while Chelmsford took the third spot.

The following seven spots on the top 10 list, in order of popularity, were found to be: Bristol, Southampton, Cardiff, Manchester, Birmingham, Brighton and Belfast.

The survey also details some of the most popular procedures in each region. Chester, an area known for the number of wives and girlfriends of influential sports stars, was found to be the face-lift capital of England and Wales while Brighton had the highest number of hair removal treatments - with male customers making up almost half of the number.

This adds weight to growing evidence that the stigma attached to male cosmetic surgery is decreasing worldwide - recent news highlighted that more men are turning to liposuction in the Czech Republic while in the UK the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons found a 27 per cent rise in the number of men undergoing male chest reduction between 2006 and 2007.

It also unveiled news that Nottingham came top for rhinoplasty, Birmingham was the most popular spot for liposuction and Belfast had the highest number of tummy tuck procedures.

In Newcastle however, breast augmentation was found to be the most popular treatment - the procedure also topped the charts in Bristol and in both cities a C cup was the favoured size.
