Cosmetic surgery popular with corporate climbers

Cosmetic surgery is not only important in the showbiz realm of Hollywood stars and pop idols, but is being increasingly adopted as a means of career advancement by corporate workers eager to look their best throughout their careers. The Orlando Sentinel reports that good looks are important in areas outside of the film industry, including competitive office environments where workers must strive to impress employers by appearing youthful and energetic. Beverley Hills cosmetic surgeon Antonio Armani reveals that he has seen an increasing desire for cosmetic surgery procedures among corporate men throughout his career, explaining: "In the corporate world, there's a lot of emphasis on image, and image goes with self-confidence. "I think a lot of people do invest money in improving their looks because they feel this is one way they can go up the corporate ladder." Popular procedures for men wishing to retain their youthful appearance include eyelid surgery, to create a less 'tired' appearance, and teeth whitening. The rise in popularity of cosmetic surgery among both men and women is seeing surgical procedures become ever more popular as a means to attain a more attractive - and thus competitive - appearance. Experts such as Gordon Patzer, author of Looks: Why They Matter More Than You Ever Imagined, predict that the wider availability of cosmetic surgery procedures may even see them becoming a requirement for candidates wishing to make it to the top. Mr Patzer calls plastic surgery "a good investment for the workplace," as they delay the decline in an employee's effectiveness as they age.
