Cosmetic surgery postponed for Britain’s fattest teen
29 June 2011Britain¬ís so-called ¬Ďfattest teen¬í, Malissa, has been refused cosmetic surgery to remove excess skin caused by her massive weight loss. The 19-year-old was referred for surgery by Dr Christian Jessen after appearing on Channel 4 documentary Embarrassing Fat Bodies, but surgeons postponed her treatment when Malissa failed to give up smoking. She was warned that two separate operations could be required due to the sheer amount of excess skin to be removed following her loss of more than 23 stone. Her smoking and the low level of iron in her blood meant the surgery could not go ahead, but further lifestyle changes should allow Malissa to have the procedures in the future and to enjoy the results of her massive weight loss. Before her weight loss regime, Malissa weighed 36 stone, wore size 28 dresses and had a body mass index (BMI) of more than 70 ¬Ė a healthy BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9.
