Could honey be a treatment for acne?
04 February 2013Research has revealed that honey could be used to help to treat individuals with skin complaints such as acne, eczema and psoriasis. Investigations show that honey has healing properties and it is now being used in all manner of beauty products, from serums and body creams, to products that promise to hydrate the skin or reduce scarring, the Daily Mail reports.Similarly, bee venom is being hailed by some as a new wonder product, as it causes ‘micro-reactions’ in the skin, which have been shown to reduce redness and improve wrinkles. So much so, that the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton was recently revealed to be a fan of bee venom facials. “This is not a marketing thing. We are serious scientists doing research for peer-reviewed journals,” said consultant dermatologist Dr Sunil Chopra. He explained that bee venom works by stimulating the renewal of skin cells and the production of collagen, both of which reduce as people age.
